Just picked up my gx550 and have a few questions and one concern! Hoping someone can help! I bike and have a bike rack from Kuat! The rack itself fits into the receiver on the lexus but the pin is no longer long enough to go through and accept the lock on the other side. I called Kuat and they dont have longer hitch pons! Ive been to three other bike shops, 2 hardware stores and made numerous calls. The bike hitch pins are all the same length and my rack has a threaded hole so nothing works with it. Anyone have recommendations? Also having to remove the outside moulding just to get the pin through is highly annoying.

Interesting. I use a kuat rack and the locking pin works as it should.
You mean it’s long enough to go all the way through the receiver and your rack and it’s threaded??? Mine goes through but not long enough to have the kuat lock to be attached. I need less than 1/4 of an inch? No other bike locks work on this rack. Which rack and bolt do you use?

I’m traveling, but here’s a picture of the rack.

Thanks so much. Yes different rack. Also I have the overtrail + and I’m wondering if the box around the actual receiver is wider on these than the other 550s. Really appreciate you sending that. None of the bike shops nor kuat has another bolt that will work.

Just for reference, mine is an overtrail+
Makes me wonder if there is something wrong with my hitch. It’s definitely wider than my other suv. It could be the housing the actual receiver sits in. Thanks for your input!

There have been several previous posts on this topic where the owners were able to use a different pin - search under kuat and 1up
Hi thanks! I’ve tried multiple pins and called kuat. None of them work. It may be the particular rack I have?? I’ll try 1up! It is a threaded bolt with a locking tip on it. It’s particular to this rack. I e tried finding another lockable pin but they’re all too thick to go through the actual rack hole.

Actually look on the LC Forum - several have bought a longer hitch pin from Rocky Mount or a wheel lock from 1up

I had to get a longer locking hitch pin for my weight distribution hitch, but not sure what you are going to do if a 5/8" pin doesn't fit through the rack. You need a 3.5-4" length.

That’s correct it doesn’t fit through the rack. I’m now trying to figure out if the rack attachment can be replaced in order to accept the 5/8 pin.

Why not drill out the current rack attachment? If you don’t have the tools, any machine shop could do it for you. They could even fab a threaded hitch pin to remove any movement from the bike rack.

Yes contacted a machine shop yesterday. Was trying to avoid that because it’s such a tight fit and I worried they couldn’t get the fit down.

I have the Kuat Sherpa from 2020 and my pin doesn’t have the threaded end. That being said I have actually put the rack in the truck now. I need to try it and see. There was always plenty of extra length on the Kuat pin when connecting it to my old Landcruiser.

I put my Sherpa on today to test it out. I had to remove the additional plastic trim to be able to insert the pin, but then put it back on after. The Kuat pin that comes with the rack worked great. Able to lock it with wiggle room to spare. I would reach out to Kuat about getting a newer/different pin than the one you have.

And for what it’s worth, the rack doesn’t insert very far into the receiver compared to my old truck. This is actually really nice because there’s plenty of room to get between the truck and the rack and open the glass. And with the rack tipped back the whole hatch opens easily without hitting the bikes.
