GX550h hybrid trunk space is mind boggling

Yes, it appears it will be the same. Strangely, the LC wants premium fuel. Unusual for Toyota, but pretty much standard with Lexus.

GX550h hybrid trunk space is mind boggling

As I recall, without checking the numbers, the 4-banger is really close to the V6 in HP and Torque. However, the smoothness of the V6 cannot be matched with the 4, and that makes it a Lexus. Since I do all my own maintenance, I think the V6 could be a nightmare, tucked under the firewall as it...

Gx550 recalled for water leak from the roof?

Same thing transpiring in regard to the GX sibling, the Toyota Land Cruiser. Let us hope it is not a drain hose leak, and rust or headliner weakening is occurring whilst they sit at the port.

GX550h hybrid trunk space is mind boggling

Cannot speak for re you live, but here the licensing for a plug-in hybrid is appreciably higher than a pure hybrid. We drive so few miles in our senior years, a plug-in does not appeal. We own a 2021 Toyota Highlander hybrid now, and love it, but obviously not off-road capable.

GX550h hybrid trunk space is mind boggling

TERRIBLE placement/design of the battery! They must have carried the battery module over from another Toyota model to save on cost. As I recall, the Land Cruiser looks better than this? Was considering a LC, but of all things, it demands premium fuel. So, might as well do the GX, with the...

GX550h hybrid trunk space is mind boggling

I'm sure the design is to insure the battery is out of harm's way when off-roading.

GX550h hybrid trunk space is mind boggling

No surprise, just confirmation, as Toyota/Lexus had previously released a video/graphic showing the GX550h drivetrain.

Any updates on the production delays?

That is what I see also. However, I did see a post where a dealer had mentioned to a customer what they had in the pipeline. So, just possibly these are "public" allocation tables, and dealers have an inside track. Or, the dealer was sharing their "wish list" that had not actually been...

Any updates on the production delays?

It opens with Tacoma, as that is probably where it was posted, but scroll down to select and to view others.

Any updates on the production delays?

One had to keep in the back of their mind the reasons for the shift towards hybrids, i.e. lower emissions and to meet the federal economy mandates. I think reliability will suffer to some degree, and present owner feedback is verifying this. Face it, a more complex machine...

Any updates on the production delays?

Yes, an excellent warranty on the battery, if any cells go bad, or if the capacity drops below 80%. I don't even think it is prorated, but not sure about that.

Any updates on the production delays?

Great! However, this means the allocation tables available online may not be 100% current. Nevertheless, still a good resource, as once posted one can see trims, features, colors, etc., and dealer markup.

πŸ’Ί What color interior will you get for your 2024 Lexus GX?

With Toyota's no special order system, can one even order colors of choice with a Lexus?

    Ordering Update

Nothing showing as yet on the allocation list published online. Checking it daily, but surely dealers have access to scheduled production, i.e. pre-allocation.

Any updates on the production delays?

I think the hybrid will be very reliable, but if a "keeper" would seriously worry about the battery and hybrid system becoming obsolete. Toyota has said/boasted they are rapidly advancing battery technology.

Any updates on the production delays?

If $10K difference, then it is OFF the table! As you mention, it would never pay for itself, especially with our 3500 mile/year driving. This said, I do not expect it to be nearly $10K difference between a twin-turbo V6/10-speed, and a hybrid single-turbo 4-banger/8-Speed.

Any updates on the production delays?

Sure wish the hybrid would also step forward, but not getting my hopes up. That drivetrain, to be in the LC and Tacoma also, seems to be suffering from a serious delay.

Why the delay of the hybrid variant?

I am guessing the differential will not be all that much. Yes, hybrid, but stepping down from a twin-turbo V6 to a single-turbo 4-banger, and most likely from the 10-speed auto to an 8-speed.

Why the delay of the hybrid variant?

Welcome jazabo! We presently own a hybrid, a 2021 Highlander, and love it. As a person who studies such things in detail, the drivetrain is a marvel of engineering and simplicity. However, the future of battery technology and chemistry is a concern for a vehicle (GX) that I will consider a...

    Ordered a GX 550

Sadly, so true. However, if the dealer owner has more than one location, then your chances are increased, as they have a larger pool of allocations to pull from.

    Any guess on the hybrid?

Yes, as I understand it, an Aisin tranny in the GX. However, the Aisin 8-speed did have some minor teething issues, but unable to dig up any negatives re the 10-speed. Speaking of the VW DSG/DCT, had it in a Passat, and a great transmission.

    Any guess on the hybrid?

I personally think it will most likely be a long-term wash cost wise between hybrid vs non-hybrid. And, as you, will be a "keeper" for me. I envision battery chemistry being markedly different in a decade, so another reason to go non-hybrid. As far as the issues with the Tundra mill, primarily...

Rear HVAC controls/distribution differ by trim?

Thanks! It appears the Overtrail and Premium only have controls for fan speed, not temperature. Hence, among the reasons why the Luxury trims came in unexpectedly priced about the Overtrail. Of course no third-row seats on the Overtrail either, leather, etc.

Rear HVAC controls/distribution differ by trim?

Hope I am mistaken, but it sure appears from viewing reviews that the rear HVAC controls/distribution differ by trim level. In particular, the Luxury trims have the controls in the rear of the pedestal, and the overhead vents. However, some, if not all of the other trims, no controls in the...

    Defeat Stop/Start?

Gunner, actually I am not sure it will have auto start/stop. I just presumed it is a federal mandate? Possibly not, or possibly a vehicle intended for off-roading would be exempt? If I am doing challenging off-roading, sure would not wish the engine deciding to shut down. For sure it should be...

    Defeat Stop/Start?

Viewing the reviews, I have not noticed any button/method to defeat the engine Stop/Start, which presumably the GX 550 has (federal dictate?). Also presumably, if it can defeated at all, would only be during a driving cycle. Yes, I know, the starters are allegedly now designed more robust, but...

2024 Lexus GX 550 production allocation

Thank you! That was my suspicion. However, will be surprised if they do not offer some variant of a rock slider on the Overtrail. As of late Toyota seems to be leaning heavy on partnerships with aftermarket accessory makers. A recent video of the underside of a pre-production Overtrail showed...

Why the delay of the hybrid variant?

Any theories why the GX 550 hybrid has a delayed release date? Lexus has said it will be forthcoming, and will share the hybrid drivetrain of the Tacoma and Land Cruiser. As Lexus is the pinnacle of reliability, are they awaiting this drivetrain to be proven in the Toyota models mentioned?

Lexus GX550 vs. the Toyota Land Cruiser - a side by side comparison

Except the Overtrail trims, the GX 20" and 22" wheels are just not suitable for any off-roading to speak of, even casual. So, those would have to be swapped for less than a pittance. Yes, agreed, the V6 on the GX will likely get dismal MPG, but hopefully a tad better than the Tundra, which is...
