This is why I bought my GX550 now.....don't trust what might come down from more woke crap in the govt. wanting to go more electric/hybrid. I need this Gx550 for towing and off road with reliability. The 8 speed automatic has some failures and problems in the hybrid and has smaller axles hence...
Going on 2,000 miles on my White Overtrail. Took another 250 mile trip with Roof Rack & 41 psi in factory Toyo 33 inch tires, outside temp of 94 degrees. This was on a fairly flat road with 700 lb lnside the cabin, cruise set to 70 mph = 20.1 mpg, 65 mph = 23 mpg and 61 mph = 25.3 mpg. The GX550...
This GX550 Overtrail will be extensively tested in towing to Alaska and back from the Midwest. Trailer wt. will be 7,000 lbs loaded. You can see my 33 gallon portable gas station I buit above the generator for extended range. My MPG have been better than I thought possible which is a big plus.
Don't feel stupid it takes a while to learn all the screen functions and where they are. Running around in St Louis I got 13.2 mpg. Heading back across Missouri I cleared the mpg data on the highway, driving in ECO mode with adaptive cruise set to 70 mph temp. 91 degrees outside temp. Mine is...
I have 700 miles on it now as I drove across the state of Missouri with it without the trailer. I found the mpg to be better than expected showing 24.7 from Tulsa to ST. Louis as long as I let the GX550 drive itself with the speed set at 68 mph with 4 bars of separation on the adaptive cruise...
Here is my solution for longer range pulling my RV trailer. Had my Gx550 for a week getting 12.5 mpg pulling 6,000 lb trailer at 60 to 65 mph on pretty flat hwy. I have 33 gallons in the 3 tanks with a pump and gas nozzle to refill as needed.
I pick up my Overtrail GX550 this Saturday. Anyone know the max tongue wt. these will handle? I put a 33 gallon fuel tank on the front of my Oliver Elite II travel trailer so I can have around a 550 mile range pulling it.
I Plan to change my oil at 1000 miles on my new GX 550 plus I will cut open the oil filter to see if any debris is in it. Next oil change will be at 6000 miles and keep checking the oil filters for any metal particles. I would not flush an engine but would change the oil at 5000 miles.
My GX 550 Overtrail is due the 1st part of July. After looking deeply into this engine problem (I build engines) I believe Toyota has been doing the right thing and been as honest as they can as the problem surfaced. It looks to me the aluminum block channel leading to the front main bearing...
Needs a steel rear bumper with swing carrier for the spare tire then add a 25-30 gallon secondary long range fuel tank for my white OT due to leave port from Japan on May 29th.
