I've only learned, so far, that sroberts' dealer is probably in AL. If someone could post the dealer's name/location, it would count for a lot in getting this fixed. For some, it's easy enough to take a fix trip.
Rangertrace, tell. You have an OT, right? With roof rack noise if I recall correctly. OTs just come with rails. Did you add crossbars? Did you wrap them?
Some folks have said they think the mirrors are also responsible. Maybe someone will be the guinea pig and stick on some shark fins or vortex generators and measure before and after decibel readings. Sorry, I can't oblige. No GX yet.

I think I found it This mounting plate is 36.75 inches long and costs $200. It will span or run with cross bars.
I use Gotreads and I don't see any neat way to lash them to cross bars...... unless, maybe I can find a nice, stiff piece of grating to support them through the span and leave them opened up and long.
Otherwise I guess they will go in a bag up in the cargo carrier with tents and gear. Not...
All good questions. But I don't have any experience with low profile racks. I only use crossbars on my vehicles for everything I want to mount on the roof.
Always use a cargo carrier and I want the moonroof to clear it so height works for me. Traction boards would be dwarfed by my cargo...
Next I'm wondering if the pins could be ground off. That is, if the clamping mechanism is firm enough. The universal clamps from Rhino Rack for their cross bars just use screw compression clamping to hang on.
Nice adapting. I had assumed the OEM crossbars could be slid back and forth for spread adjustment. What is it about the way they are attached that prevents that?
Update from me, the OP. The folks on this forum and the LC forum have been a big help. The short list has narrowed between the GX550 OT and the LC FE if I buy this year. GX550 Overtrail is on top now after seeing the braking performance difference between the GX and the LC. And some other...
So true. Ha ha! Even as a college student and beyond. The beating my left ear suffered on long trips through the south were the worst part. Small truck and the air had no place to go.
@YellowLab, did you do the white wrap yet? I'm looking at an earth/onyx Overtrail this week and the black roof is a big no-no. Black anything on a vehicle absorbs heat and looks bad in real world dust and dirt. Seems like a vinyl wrap shop should be able to wrap a roof and trim around the...
There's another thread about vibration that morphed into info about a squealing brake fix in case you all haven't seen it.
Post in thread 'GX550 Overtrail Vibration' GX550 Overtrail Vibration
Yes and congrats! I used paracord on my van rack and I used fewer wraps than you did. I also created more of a spiral/angled wrap. Not sure what works best but my rack went from noisy to nothing noticed at all. And it's easy to play around with it for best results. Glad it worked for you.
Too bad. But not surprised. Was leaning heavily towards the 6 cyl and more cargo space in the GX550 vs Land Cruiser. Was shopping for an Overtrail and must admit I like the dash shelf on the passenger side which the LC doesn't have. If it weren't for the vibration and brake issues still...
