I had the opportunity to see and drive a gx yesterday. Incredible vehicle, but there is one big issue I have. The cool box is ridiculously small and gimmicky. I want and need a full center console, for many reasons. I can bring a small ice chest when I need cold drinks. I can’t leave my stuff exposed in an open box on the back seat though. Has anyone been able to get a gx overtrail without the cool box yet, or are they ramming it into all the builds so far?
Secondarily, I see no need for the heads up display either, how hard is it to get one without that feature?

I don’t think I’ve ever seen an OT/OT+ without the cool box (doesn’t mean that there isn’t a unicorn). I certainly wish I didn’t have it, but I use it as a reduced storage space. Let’s face it, one area the this vehicle doesn’t shine in is useable and functional storage space, i.e. no place for sunglasses, etc

Not sure about the heads up display—but I actually love that feature.

I find the "non-cool-box" console holds a decent amount of stuff, plus I've added a tray on top without compromising much space. When a console vault comes available, I'll likely install one.

I disagree, unless someone has photos showing otherwise. The space taken up in front is 1/3 or more of what is available and both sides combined is easily 1/4 of the width. Not to mention depth.
This really shouldn’t be the standard build, it’s a stupid gimmick. Everyone going camping brings a cooler or dometic fridge. Everyone driving around every day needs places to stash stuff.
Still love the vehicle, but I will patiently wait a bit to get what I want if it’s possible. I’m not holding out for a bigger fuel tank though. Toyota won’t ever admit that mistake.

the issue I have with the cool box is it's not big enough for anything that's not a 12 oz can or short plastic bottle, or maybe a single sandwich.

Even for daily driving I get more utility out of a lunch bag with an ice pack.

Agree it needs more storage in the cabin, both front and back.

Took this from a product page on Amazon:

Depth looks to be the same, it’s a tiny bit narrower, and most of the difference seems to be towards the front by the charger.

I bought a tray for mine for under $2 shipped from AliExpress and it fits perfect and allows me to carry what I need in it.

Everyone has a different opinion the one that owners of these cars should be asking Toyota/LEXUS THEIR WEB SITE SAY you can order you vehicles the way you want but that rarely happens and then you have to wait forever

I didnt want a cool box either but my 550 came with one. I, like you, wanted the extra storage space. However, after using the cool box on a long roadtrip, I discovered I am quite a FAN of it (pun intended). It chilled my room temp drinks to ice cold in about an hour and its pretty darn convenient and compact compared to the small YETI cooler that it replaced. For your guns, you might look into something like this: Hidden Headrest Gun Safes for Cars. It actually locks + your goodies are hidden, so I would say its more secure than a regular ol center console anyway.
