GX550 Engine failure

I am a member of a few GX 550 groups on FB. There have been two reports of engine problems that sound like the issues the Tundra has been having. Both vehicles are on the way to Lexus for diagnosis, no follow up posts have been made.

Could be, just posting the info, there have not been any updates. The latest failure was at 3 K miles, I copied and pasted the post:” I’ve put 3k miles on my vehicle. Got out of the driveway this morning and up the road, as I was accelerating to 30mph the engine shut off entirely I had to get over to the side of the road as much as I could and now check engine light is illuminated and vehicle says not safe to drive. When I try to turn it over it just shakes and rumbles. Do I have a lemon? Getting towed to local dealer now, I’m pissed.”

Facebook is a cesspool of misinformation, but it also very popular and seems to have tons of GX550 owners eyeballs

I hope the owner is able to provide more information as they learn more from the service center

Seems like a main bearing issue from some other posts, but there is a lot of antagonistic behavior from many commentators

One owner with 9k miles updated his status and said that his GX 550 needed a new engine, per Lexus.

He had just joined the FB group a couple of days ago. This was their 1st post.

Post from FB:” Has anyone had to have there engine replaced on there GX 550 ?
I was driving home last night on 75 north when I heard a loud noise come from the engine. Every light came on and I tried to pull off to the side of the interstate with out getting killed . The engine was making a weird noise. I called lexus roadside they came and towed my car to lexus.
Today when I went no lexus they said I need a whole new engine they gave me a loaner car and said it would probably take a month . My GX only has 9k miles on it im a little disappointed. — feeling annoyed.”

There is another reported engine issue that the owner has not updated their status, 3k miles on vehicle.

I have done three oil changes on my GX, 600, 1500 and 5100 miles. Running PUP and OEM filters. Hoping for the best.

That certainly sucks to hear. I felt pretty confident buying the GX as the Tundra/ Seq just felt like they had some ongoing issues and some of the build quality wasn’t great.

I also planned on changing out my oil at 1k and 5k to get it checked. Sounds like you did all the things I planned on doing.

Like those morons that say how glad they were to have this particular code reader to scan a code on their brand new GX550 and it saved them a ton of money! I agree. First off the Tundra and GX have two different engines with different tuning - so these stories I find are BS. Just like the click baiters saying the windows and trim are melting to get yourtube clicks. F' them.

The person who posted about their engine failure didn't post any youtube links and didn't post any code reader links. Doesn't seem like they are trying to farm engagement.

How much does the LX600 engine differ from the Tundra and GX?

You are 100% confident that the main bearing issue does not exist on GX or LX?
