I picked up my Lexus in February in NY and the plastic exterior pieces started to melt all over the truck. Anyone else seeing this? I know that most dont, just looking to connect with those it has happened to.
There are no special circumstances for my truck and its winter in NY so no external heat source.

Show pictures if this is real.

I had this issue right after I picked up the car. At first, I thought it was a melting issue, but after I got a replacement (under warranty), the same spot appeared again. I think it might be a problem with the frame or a clip. The dealer has reached out to Lexus and is waiting for a response. I'll post a pic after work.

Here are some pics. Anyone having this issue?

Wow! Wonder if it’s something with the piano black plastics. No issues on my Overtail thus far but the OTs have the matte black pieces save for the mirror caps & tailgate spoiler. Additionally, my mirrors are PPF’d.

Interesting side note- if you hold a LED flashlight up on those areas, they don’t look black—they look blue

Sorry for delay in sharing pics, been trying to work with Lexus but they have not offered to resolve the issue. These are just a few pics, there are over 15 spots all around the vehicle, including top, sides, front and rear. I do not park in front of glass buildings, ever.

Interesting that Lexus is not saying its covered under warranty for me. Probably bc it is happening all over my truck. They believe its solar convergence. apparently when you research that term and damaged cars, its all toyota/lexus. funny how that doesnt seem to happen to other brands.....

It does happen to other brands:

You can also find articles about people who put in Astro turf or siding and have had it melted from neighbors windows.

There must be something going on with where it’s being parked to cause that level of damage. The painted trim above the taillight is even affected.

Wow, that really does look like melting. I retract my smart-ass previous comment!

My in-laws installed fake grass in a little patch in their backyard and one of their windows completely fried it. They had to replace the grass and put a special screen over the window.

Every article out there is focused on Toyota brands, this article is specific to a building in London with one car. I live in the suburbs of NYC and there are NO windows to reflect where the car is parked. I have parked multiple cars in same area over the years, including Lexus vehicles. I have a lexus car 2024 in same spots with no issues. The quality of these parts are defective otherwise all my cars would have melted over the years. With all due respect, astro turf is not the same thing as an $80k luxury vehicle.

It’s not a Toyota or Lexus issue alone and it’s not widespread or you’d see a lot more posts about it on here. The damage might not be occurring at home, it could happen anywhere. You also have damage across multiple areas including some that are painted, so it’s not likely a material issue as those parts are made of different materials. We have members who live in Arizona and FL and have had their cars baked by the sun and haven’t reported issues.

Thanks for the articles, when you search on "solar convergence damaging vehicles" its mostly Toyota so perhaps they have more issues than others. I never said it was "widespread", just that it happened all over my truck and every part of it. Could have been bad parts on my truck. I started this chain to ask WHO it has affected to see if there were others. I even admitted it doesn't happen to most. Glad it doesnt happen to you or all, just looking to connect with those that have.
