Not seeing the benefits on the Hybrid? What am I missing??

I've got my deposit down on a OT+. I'm told it will be a couple months more til I receive it. Just heard about the H. But I'm not seeing a convincing argument for it... Marginal mileage increase, the battery takes additional room from the storage I'd think, more to worry about on long term maintenance, and I assume a higher price... Am I missing something?

Sounds like you have a pretty good handle on the hybrid vs. regular!

Given the lack of any tangible benefits for the hybrid vs. regular, I have to think that the "Hybrid" badge on the back of the truck is the chief benefit for all the virtue-signalers out there.....but just as long as it's not a Tesla.

I didn’t see anything is there an article or press release? I searched google but didn’t find anything recent either.

I suppose for towing, a bit more HP and torque would be a potential benefit, but weight of battery eats into payload number. In the Tundra, if I recall correctly, it is not quicker. So yeah, not sure the benefit beyond a few MPG.

My wife’s rig is a ’23 GLE 450 and has a ‘mild hybrid’ system. With a tank size ~ 1 gallon more than my ’25 GX, it routinely gets 500+ miles on a tank, in town and rural roads. On road trips, it’s close to 600 on a single tank.

I get the argument of more crap to break/reliability issue but I’ve been genuinely impressed with what MB has done. It’d be nice if Toyota/Lexus can incorporate something similar without decreasing reliability.

I do think the estimated range is underrated. Each time I've filled up, I end up adding much less than what I expected to based on the miles remaining and fuel tank capacity.

There may also be a tax credit available for the hybrid, depending on the state you're in. That may be enough to sway you one way or the other, considering the final cost.

On the 700 h over trail the ladder frame has two extra bump stops to handle the extra weight to my knowledge Lexus hasn’t said anything about the GX’s ,I personally you have liked if the GX’s had the extra bump stops I will say I don’t have a problem with the ride quality but I think it would definitely help for those who would want it

There's been no new announcements for the US. The overseas markets have GX hybrids and they use the same motor as the Land Cruiser gets in the US. The benefits don't seem to be worth it. In models with the third row the trunk becomes useless even with the seats down due to the seats being mounted on top of the battery which itself:

(note the new LX OT hybrid has a similar comically compromised trunk)

You get minimal gas mileage increase, which is offset by a smaller fuel tank, you get a lower tow rating, and a less refined sounding powertrain.

Maybe there will be changes for the US market to make it more well rounded and fix packaging, but currently based on the foreign market hybrid shown above I don't see any reason to get it over the gas.

that first picture looks like an afterthought bolted on top of another afterthought.

Before loving my Overtrail like I do, I drove a Rav4-H for over 5 years. Consistant 38+mpg. Never a lick of problem. Just a different style of driving that you get used to. The wife drives a Highlander-H and that too, no problem with the hybrid.

I needed a bigger car and the GX checked all my boxes. I would not give up any more interior room for batteries. The only concession I'd make is for a larger gas tank.

I'm not sure if the future GX will have a hybrid-6 vs a Land Cruiser Hybrid-4, but the LC's H-4 does not excite me.

The rumors about the increased mileage are only about 2-3 mpg. Sounds like Mercedes has a much more robust Hybrid system. There will be some Extended Range Electric Vehicles (EREV) like Scout is planning which is powered by electric but it is charged by a small 4 cylinder engine. Estimating a total range of 500 miles. Interesting technology but it's all so new and will be changing drastically as the technology improves. I'm coming from a Rivian and will miss some of the tech but I'm over electric for a while...

The Rivian SUV is beautiful! I test drove one and absolutely loved it. The $100k entry fee is a bit steep and it just wouldn't be practical for me with all the driving I have to do, but man was it beautiful! Unfortunately, the big question is what do you do with it after about 5 years, or whenever the battery starts going bad? The current answer seems to be to not worry about it, just get another one.

Coming from an EV before my GX, the batteries don’t go bad in 5 years. Also even if it did most of the manufactures have 8-10 yr battery warranties. The battery will degrade over time and will usually level off around 85-90% capacity. There are people with hundreds of thousands and even a few million miles on their original batteries across a wide range of brands.

I agree. The Rivian ride is great, and the power and torque is amazing. I will miss that for sure! What’s making me switch is the fact that when I travel from home through Wyoming & Montana to chase trout, there’s still so many dead zones where no chargers are around. I have to take a different vehicle. Also, Rivian only has one service center in Denver and I had to wait over 2 months to get in for my last repair. Also, resale value really sucks. Cold weather and towing sucks… One day the technology & infrastructure will evolve. But I’d say st least 5 more years…
