Greetings, I received my Overtrail in February and love it without reservation. This is my first post, but I am working on a Member Build post that covers everything I've done to my GX--and why--since then. This community is so full of great information and helpful people, and I've been looking forward to paying it back and paying it forward with everything I've learned--and I've gone down every rabbit hole in this place.

I couldn't be happier with my decision to get the GX550. I'm in my mid-50s and have just entered my empty-nesting years with both kids off to college, and I have no intention of sitting around in an empty nest. I have a good group of friends who love to get out there and fish, golf, mountain bike, etc., and a big part of my decision to go with the GX was to expand the range of these activities, and road trips with my wife and dog--in style.

When I started looking for a new rig, I was initially dead set on the new Land Cruiser, and didn't seriously consider the GX OT because I thought it was pushing the limit on price range (turns out, they weren't that far apart). I love/still love everything about the LC--except the sound of the hybrid engine, and the awkward battery platform in the rear. I had to drive the LC twice and extensively before logic could override emotions enough to walk away from that purchase and cancel my inbound order for one. Practically speaking, the LC is a competent vehicle and measures up in nearly every regard to the GX OT. But the sound of that 4Cyl (without a significant mpg tradeoff, btw)...I know it would have bothered me, and at this price range and for how long I intend to own this thing, no regrets is the only option. And I'm happy to report, Sport+ Mode in the GX does not disappoint and can best be described in this video...https://youtu.be/vS_j27oiW5M?si=Q9l4edt-6nzZSjZ2

I've attached a photo of my GX Incognito pre-mods.

Cheers,
L.K.

Welcome.

I went through a very similar evaluation as you did in regard to the Landcruiser. Visually I really liked the LC but when you looked at the cost, the engine itself, and some of the compromised cargo space, it was hard not to get a GX.

I also think the LC is in a bit of a pickle with the 4runner release. The pricing between all 3 is very close. The 4runner does most things the LC can do with the same engine at a lower price point and the GX can do the same things at a slightly higher price point with a better engine. Will be interesting to see how it shakes out for the LC over the next few years.

The GX is fantastic for what you described you plan on doing with it. Good luck keeping it stock for long - this place is addicting.

Thank you. It did not stay stock for long! I’ve recently completed my initial round of upgrades including a lift, wheels, tires, rails and rack. I’ll post details soon to the member build forum.

Congrats and welcome.

Look forward to seeing your build updates. Good choice on the GX for the right reasons. Same thoughts on wanting a LC then choosing the GX.
