Swaying

We are towing a 5000lb camper behind our 2024 Overtrail + with one sway bar attached from the hitch to the camper. The load is well balanced. The swaying is still way worse than our old Land Rover LR4 even though the GX is supposed to have a higher towing capacity.

We pressed the tow haul button and the drive mode button lit up. I assume that means the tow haul mode is on.

The vehicle has recognized the trailer and trailer driving assist is active.

Any suggestions? We can barely go 70mph without the sway becoming dangerous.

We figured out the issue! Just in case someone else has this problem, the answer is to turn off any driver assistance that keeps you in your lane etc. It overreacts when pulling a camper and passing a semi, then it overreacts the other direction, creating a fishtail effect with the camper.

Just curious, are you saying that you only had one side of your sway controller connected and the other side not connected?
I think they just have a friction sway bar, not an actual down force sway control hitch setup. A weight distribution hitch with actual sway control tension bars would definitely make a big difference.

That’s interesting. Driver assistance is disabled when I connect my trailer and use Tow/haul mode. The screen notifies me that it’s unavailable. I get lane departure notifications but not lane centering or adaptive cruise control. I’m towing a 5,000 lbs trailer as well and haven’t experienced any swaying issues. I’m towing an off road camper so I’m not using an anti-sway hitch. I’m sure you already know this, but make sure the tongue is at a slight downward angle and that you have enough weight on the hitch.

I moved from a Tacoma, so the GX is a game changer for me as far as towing. My issues with the GX are the location of the plug and more squat than I expected.

Happy camping.

Glad you got it sorted out, and thanks for sharing the fix! (y)

What off road camper are you towing? I’m in the market for one and would love to hear your experience.

Sorry for the slow reply. I’m towing a 2024 Kimberley Karavan. It’s a major upgrade from the Taxa Cricket that we had as

our last camper. Honestly, the only negative this I can say about it is that it’s insanely expensive, IMO.
