Hey Everyone!
VF Tuner here and we want to let you guys know we have support for the GX550!
That includes tuned packages as well.

This is a real calibration for the ECU and TCU. (engine and transmission).
This engine is capable of 100+ ft lbs of torque gain and 50+ horsepower just with a few tune modifications. (that's just the base OTS maps. On our tundra we have seen over 600 HP / 700 ft lbs).
If you guys saw us at SEMA we had our truck in the future tech booth and work closely with magnuson for some very cool mods for this engine.

We will also be working on several custom features like
  • Flex fuel
  • drive mode based map switching / boost control
  • Gear lock (an exclusive feature we have designed for various toyota trucks that allows you to get the maximum torque without downshifting for offroad/towing / etc).

A few people have already ordered our kit so you should be seeing more info soon.!

We are also investigating about direct bolt on turbo upgrades from the Tundra (as the Tundra has slightly larger turbochargers) and a calibration to match.

Thank you everyone!

Did you actually tune on a GX?

Many of your competitors are just shipping tundra tunes

Which competitors? If you mean Pro Tuners that us VF Tuner...those are independent shops and tuners that use VF Tuner software.

The calibration for the GX550 and Tundra (and other variant v6 TT engines from toyota, LX600...LS500..etc etc) all use very similar logic and tuning.

So tuning the tundra is not inherently all that different than the GX550. The main differences are load limiters / torque / transmission shifting.
The GX550 although uses a more aggressive ignition advance than that of the tundra, and different load limits.

All of the relevant tables themselves are the same though. We are providing GX550 OTS maps. (pre-made maps).

Interesting enough the GX550 requires premium fuel...but the tune can definitely be made to be 87 friendly just like the tundra. (main challenge is low RPM higher boost where knock is most likely to be present).

Thank you for the interest everyone! We want to provide an affordable tune package for you guys that doesn't break the bank and also maintains ALL ECU standard communication (doesn't lock lexus out from performing updates, doesn't utilize excessive custom code that may have bugs, etc)

We are working on a few notable things, including a flex fuel option for this platform (and our other platforms)

Regarding the clunk...this is so notorious on practically all toyotas and lexuses. It is the way they do torque converter locking.
generally the converter never locks on 1rst gear (almost every toyota TCU calibration has 1rst gear locking disabled) and will lock right up upon upshift to second, which can make that clunky shift feeling. It is accelerator pedal dependent.

It's quite simple to fix, tuning wise.

The problem I experienced was in DOWNshifting from second to first, as when you are decelerating as you approach a stop light or stop sign. This truck has a very aggressive downshift program (too aggressive in my opinion - should let you coast along in higher gears in Eco mode). When you are nearly stopped the truck jumps into first clunks and stutters and lurches a bit. It almost feels like you hit a big pothole and got a little bump from the car behind you all at the same time.

On a completely different note, I am very interested in your tuning package. I had it in my shopping cart but I'm waiting for someone else on this board to go first on this one!

We have already sold multiple kits on facebook, they may not be on this board.

you can just check VF Tuners activity and development in the toyota realm if you are at all concerned about our product. Our tool is the most comprehensive toyota tuning platform on the planet, used by Magnuson, Procharger, and hundreds of shops worldwide.

Mine comes in today. I’ll get it installed and give you guys some feedback

We are looking at grabbing a GX 550 for our own R/D and to expand this even further. They are awesome vehicles.
only issue is nearly every single one is sold before even arriving to any lots.

Sounds like you guys need one in house! VF has been very responsive but the software won’t pull or read my ECU. Just errors out. Maybe my box code is too new?

for ECU dumping, this can be the case, and you'll likely need our aux CAN Connect cable. It may have accidentally been shipped to you without it (we we apologize for, all the new vehicles we support come with their own CAN Connect cables (tundra/tacoma/GX/4Runner/LC/etc with toyotas new turbo engines)
I saw your email and will get back to you on that, along with shipping your CAN Connect cable directly to you.

We are super sorry that it did not come in the box. We have been so swamped in orders it may have accidentally went out with a standard order.

It will be overnighted to you after presidents day.

Thank you everyone! We didn't expect to sell several kits really quickly! and should have all of them out early next week.

In other good news we found our development overtrail+ !!

I really want a tune but I'm afraid my engine is going to blow up because Lexus already fucked up, and they will blame it on the tune.
I wouldn't be concerned. There are few of these engines in the Tundras that are Lemons but Toyota is taking good care of everyone.

If you ordered a GX550 kit from us we will be emailing you all today regarding the status.

Due to the delay (which we are SINCERELY sorry about!) we will be offering kit purchasers an additional discount off the kit they already ordered.

We will also extend pricing discounts to everyone interested for a while.

I'm interested, but what's the impact to the factory or extended warranty? I've experienced other tuners (different make) that can be seen by the manufacturer that would immediately void the factory warranty for any powertrain issues.

Exactly the reason I won't do it. Stock is plenty peppy for me. And all I have to do is drive my wife's 460 to REALLY appreciate the power of the 550.

Good Morning everyone.

First we want to explain about the warranty and the reason we use CAN Connects.
Normally, through the OBD port the vehicle records everyting you do, within the gateway/bcm / etc with all flash events, KEY events, etc.

Our CAN Connect cables bypass this, allowing direct, silent access to the ECU. There are already hundreds of new Gen4 Toyota vehicles (Tundra, Land Cruiser, Tacoma, etc) tuned with VF that are issue free, warranty in tact, zero trace. One of our major retailers even showed this recently.
Because.... in case anyone wasn't aware, TOYOTA (even on lexus vehicles) records, ONLINE, on their servers any time any flash event has happened, ECU flash, ECU upgrade, TSB, recall, etc. They record your VIN and other data permanently on their servers when this is done. The vehicle can also remotely access toyota (as far as we are aware, we are not sure how, yet).

Our CAN Connect cables avoid all of this, and is a simple way to "unlock" your ECU without all that headache.

Finally, regarding the status. We ordered our CAN connect cables, and the first batch they sent were just completely wrong. Second batch were "correct" but not for the GX550.

We take full responsibility for this, and anyone who has ordered we have emailed with an offer for an additional $200 off the kit that they purchased for this inconvenience. The actual correct little plugs are on order but they come straight from Japan (there is only 1 in the entire continental united states).

We also have offered the Pro Tuner upgrade for current folks waiting, entirely for free ( normally $1100+ for this).

This tiny little connector is all we are waiting on to arrive (we managed to buy all 12 that are currently in existence "planet wide".. )

again we take full responsibility for this error and delay, and we are deeply sorry. I hope everyone understands, and we appreciate your support.
