LOL, yeah, we've been paranoid about crushing the frame around the mirrors as well.
I think you'll find the mirrors on the Tundra work well. It wouldn't hurt my feelings to have them out just a touch more, but I can use them without issue with our 23' AS.
I know the OP has moved on to a Tunda (we have a 2024 Tundra that tows are 23 foot Airstream wonderfully - although we usually use the GX since I like a smaller vehicle once we're at our location - which also tows it well). However, I wanted to mention that we use these:

Just got back from a 1400 mile trip, highway, mostly flat, some gentle hills. Both ways, I was between 21 and 22 MPG. Speed was around 70MPH. There was two of us plus a load of furniture in the back for my son on the way there (and more of his junk for the trip back LOL).

The trip was mostly through gentle hills and flat terrain and I was getting at 12MPG @ 65MPH (not much wind). I fill up between 160 and 200 miles, depending on how few and far between gas stations are. The gauge shows that you have less range than you really do. When I'm down to almost single...
FWIW, we ran into this the first time we tried to pull our airstream. It seems that if it's under 4999# it doesn't want to use the controller. Set it to the next one 5000# and it'll work.
Also, I was able to get the GX 500 to work with cruise control with the trailer - just not adaptive...
