So brought my Overtrail+ to the dealer for the first oil change at 1000 miles (well worth the money - get any metal shavings out).
Could issues I brought up that - I'm mixed on the experience
  • Passenger Seat Massage does not work - Dealer did a reset I assume, and now I can power it on - so all good
  • Drivers lumbar air bag deflates after 30 mins+/-, they could not duplicate (not sure they tried - but will advise) I told them that based on the comments on this forum it was a leaking valve - they did not seem to pay attention.
  • Rear seat heaters do not work - dealer told me they are fine - argued with the service manager that on this level car the heaters should give off more warmth than the body heat of a sick mouse. The issue was escalated to Lexus national and will let me know - but disappointed they tell me they can't duplicate, its called sit in the seat and try.
  • I've used over 4 tanks of gas to go 1000 miles - which is very concerning - averages 12.5mpg. All of my driving scores on the Lexus App have been rated as 'excellent' and told the service manager this something is not right. Recently drove on the highway to Santa Barbara - never went about 75mph and could not even break 14mpg. Dealer dismissed saying the EPA numbers are exceptional case only. I'm debating about escalating to Lexus nationally. I knew going in this has the aerodynamics of a Maytag washer - but not even getting to the lowest number 15 - annoying. The dealer noted that Lexus did a software update on the 2024 RX's because of horrific milage complaints - perhaps that is in the works.
  • Service Rep was very nice - but did not like the statements by the service department to discount all my issues as 'can't duplicate'. Not what I expected from Lexus - snotty and condescending compared to my service experience with Porsche and BMW.

wow....i'm averaging about 18 mpg combined in city and hwy miles going back and forth to work and expect that to get better once I get a few more miles on.

My LaminX tint over the emblem got me +1 mpg... maybe you got a defective one...lol

The only thing I've added to my OT+ is a smoke film over the front emblem - hardly think that equates to any impact . Dealer was so dismissive that it pissed me off....
Maybe you are on to something....maybe some of these trucks really do have poor mileage compared to others. Maybe it's a software thing?

My dealer wasn't so much dismissive as just plain clueless when I brought up brake squeal in reverse, hood flutter, dealer adjustments, etc.

I'm thinking the RX software update is the tell-tale

For comparison, I have stock OT roof rack and my combined mpg is 17 with 6500 miles on odometer

My lexus dealer acknowledged squealing brakes issue, ordered replacement parts immediately, acknowledged hood flutter and said he’s waiting for “official fix” from lexus and will fix it when that comes down the pike, and he also told me that dealer service managers are well aware of all the problems before they even land on a thread on the forums.

It sounds like your dealer sucks, i’d try to find a different one

The rear heated seats are really weak. My son noticed it immediately on the P+ when we switched from our GX460 to the GX550. I read somewhere on the forum someone managed to have Lexus increase the rear heated seat settings , so I asked our service advisor when I brought ours in for 1k oil change and they compared the settings with a few other GX550s on the lot and told me it was "normal", all of them were "weak".

My GX550 brakes started squealing after 1k miles, arrgh...

On purely short city drives, I get 7-12 mpg on the display (GX550 Premium + with OEM factory racks and the 20" tires) On the highway, I get up to 20-21 mpg which is great. I fill up with Shell V-power. Have you tried to calculate mpg manually during fill up? Something seems not right if you are getting low teens on the highway..

Wife took a 300 mile work trip this past week and I just filled up for her when she got back. Hand calculated at high 18 mpg. With 2 miles until empty put almost 18 gallons in.

OP what's your driving style? Are you hand calculating or relying on the display? Short trips under 5 miles before the engine actually warms up really kills it.

Lexus service totally sucks - nothing but 'we can't duplicate the problem' or other BS. Cannot wait for my survey to come over.
Ya man. My service manager didn’t know how to turn off the fake engine noise so just didn’t do it and the somehow managed to scratch all 4 of my wheels during balancing. Livid

I was told my lumbar doesn’t deflate and it’s 4-6 weeks before new brake pads will be in. No fix for the hood which is the least of my concerns
