Just wondering if anyone has installed an external alternator or DC charger on their GX?

I have a Bluetti AC200 and originally planned to charge it using the factory outlet, but it turns out it only provides about 100W while driving and 400W when stationary.

I’m considering adding the new released Bluetti Charger 2, but I’m not sure if that would put too much load on the alternator. Does anyone know roughly how many amps the stock GX550 typically draws?

I use the Ecoflow 800W Alternator Charger to charge my Ecoflow Delta 2 Max and Extra Battery when in motion. I also have a 360W solar mounted on the RTT for stationary charging.

I set the Alternator Charger to charge at 50 Amps so the wattage is about 670. The OT and OT+ have the 240A alternator so that should be sufficient for any charging needs. The non-Overtrail versions have the 180A alternator.

Nice Thanks for the reply!

Just curious, did you run the alternator cable through the firewall and then under the carpet? Or is it possible to route it underneath the car and bring it in from the side of the trunk?

I ran the cable through the firewall underneath the passenger side panel and underneath the carpet. I don’t think the original cable is long enough to run to the trunk area unless you extend the cable.

Got it, thanks again!

Did you have to remove any trim or panels to pull the wires through, or were you able to get it done just using a fish tape puller?

The door sills/panels are easily removable to pull the cables through. The cables can be routed underneath the carpet once the door sills are removed. Snap them back after you’re done.
