Apologies if this has been discussed before...I found one reference to it with no replies from a while ago so I thought I would ask.

Yesterday before I took a short trip I selected "Gauge 2" somewhere in the Settings menus. I like the display of both the tach and the speedo. But, just like when I had it set to "Gauge 1" the actual speedo and tach went away when I started driving and all I had was the digital speedo in the middle. Maybe it has something to do with having navigation running? I don't have the map in the driver information dash screen though. Maybe there's some other setting that turns it off while driving? If anybody has information on how to keep the tach and speedo displayed while driving (with navigation on) I'd love to hear it. Thanks.

There are 3 gage 'styles' you can select from the settings menu. What you're describing seems normal; style 1 has the central tach with digital speed, style 2 has separate gages for tach and speed, and style 3 has yet another variation (which I cannot recall). To restore the map in the center cluster, or the left / right section(s) you need to be in Park, or the vehicle needs to be stationary. Hold down the OK button until you see a highlighted rectangle. Then you can scroll through the data using the up / down arrows for the item you would like to display e.g. turbo boost, media, dynamic cruise, fuel economy, etc. Using the left / right arrows you can move the data display to all 3 sections (left, right, and center) and select different (or same) variables to your liking. That you claim the map is missing is most likely because the setting is set to "blank." Hope this helps!

I don't have the map displayed in the gauge cluster. It's my understand that the map directions don't show up in the HUD if you display the map in the center display. What I'm seeing is the tach and speedo simply disappear while I'm driving. Seems the tach dial and speedo dial should stay displayed on the dash even if I have navigation going?

Thanks for clarifying. Well now that does appear strange. The tach and speedo should always be present in some form on the dash. However, I don't believe our GX's have turn by turn directions displayed on the center display or HUD. I haven't been using navigation that much to notice, but I rely on the voice turn by turn directions.

Turn by turn directions should show in the HUD for the built-in maps or for Apple Maps (via CarPlay). They don't show in the HUD for Android Auto or for other mapping apps (Google Maps, Waze, etc.) on Apple CarPlay.

I'll see if I can figure out why the speedo and tach disappear in my dash display. Like I said, it might have to do with having navigation going, but I'll play with that and find out.

Were you using cruise? That will make the tach disappear and will simplify the display.
Yes I was! So that's the culprit, huh? It is possible to change something in the settings or display to have cruise active and still have the more complex display in the dash?

Yep, that’s how the system functions. I’m not sure of any way to change it, though I haven’t tried.

It makes sense, though… when cruise is on, the car is controlling things. So tach is irrelevant, as is anything other than the set and current speed. It’ll still show the customized info elements you’ve chosen.

That sort of makes sense in a very Japanese way (that's not an insult, it's just there's often a different mindset - I did consulting for Southland in the early 90s when 7-11 Japan bought majority ownership and it took some time for us to understand the Japanese mindset and way of doing business).

I did try tonight on my way home, and it appears that if you use standard cruise mode, it leaves the gauges alone. If you use adaptive cruise mode, then it changes to the stark type 3 gauge style.

Good to know - thanks for sharing that.
