Hello,

got my gx550 scheduled maintenance service back in late September. Drove very little since then, like a couple thousand miles only.

Anyways, finally got a little break on work and packed for a Long trip from Florida to Utah. I'm still in Texas, couple of days to go in a tight schedule. Today got the alert "engine oil maintenance required" just asking me to call the dealer. On the app it doesn't say anything else. Didn't want to lose a day now, thinking of only checking in in Albuquerque about 3 days from now, 2thousand miles later on my way back. First lexus here, not sure if this would be a problem. What do you guys think?

You checked the oil and it looks ok? If so you just may need a reset on the oil maintenance reminder. Either way I would have it checked out.

That just means that regularly scheduled maintenance is required (an oil change). It doesn't mean anything catastrophic.

How many miles do you have total?

What was your maintenance service back in September and how many miles were you at in September? Was oil changed?

My next scheduled maintenance is only 03/25 according to the sticker. My current mileage is more or less 11k. I just checked the oil and it seems OK maybe a little low. I never know how to tell if it's really low by looking at the indicator. I think I'll buy some oil and fill in a bit

Did you wipe the dipstick and reinsert it and then read it? because that's how you tell if its low or not. and you do it with the engine off. If you add oil when you're already full, you can create more issues. When in doubt, have it checked out, please.

yes, wiped and reinserted. the problem here is that since today is Sunday we either stop by Albuqueque today and lose the rest of the day, try to schedule a service with lexus Albuquerque tomorrow morning (and also lose at least Monday morning ) or we just consider the oil is ok and go on driving all night long and tomorrow morning we're in Moab for the day, Tuesday morning check in a lexus in a close by city in Utah on our way back.

We'll have only 2 days for the parks until going back, so this stop in Lexus tomorrow on our way up there would ruin the plans. Of course, if it's a safety issue, it is what it is though...

Just to let you know, there's actually a "quantity of oil" information in the Lexus app under health report, it shows as fine. So yeah, it's just a change of oil due to the mileage. I think in the last service it hadn't reached the mileage for changing yet. Jusr think the alert should properly inform it. Getting an alert message in the panel about the engine oil without more details kinda freaked me out since I'm literally going in to a desert area.

Looking at your above post I see you have 10213 miles on your vehicle. Lexus scheduled maintenance indicates oil and filter change every 10000 miles or 12 months whatever comes first. They may have forgotten to reset your oil maintenance reminder.

The oil level is supposed to be between the two holes, don't add oil and overfill it.

Remove the dipstick, wipe the dipstick clean, wait a couple minutes so that the oil that you pulled up the sides of the dipstick tube when you pulled out the dipstick has some time to drain back down. Then reinsert the dipstick, make sure it's seated, and remove it to read it.
