You just dated yersef there, Bluegill...I see a silver skid plate and I want it painted black.
I saw the Stones decades ago and Mick was already old!You just dated yersef there, Bluegill...
I installed this to replace the rear skip plate on my 2025 Overtrail. It is 0.25" thick (plus some welded on reinforcing bars) instead of the 0.16" thickness of the OEM part, and more importantly covers the catalytic converters. I was interested in doing this for two reasons. One is to discourage theft of the converters, and the other is to prevent vegetation I am driving over from possibly being set on fire from the hot converters. The plate was well engineered and had all the fasteners I needed plus spares. The unit was packed like it was fine china. I needed some kind of jack to support it in order to do the installation myself.
I’m not worried about someone stealing my CATsMy Prem+ didn't come with any plates so the decision was easy for me.
I like DIY like everyone else, but the stock plate looks too thin to support any additions to it. I'd be interested in how the "cat wings" get attached to it without fear that they could just be pried off or break off while driving due to vibrations.
Let me change that comment - just looked under the vehicle based on Bluegill's comments - I could use one of those battery powered wheel cutters and steal those cats in minutes - and with the ground clearance it would be beyond fast for some crack-head to to thatI’m not worried about someone stealing my CATs
When did you place the order?I received mine yesterday. Holy over-protective packing, Batman! Thick cardboard box, box completely wrapped in plastic, heavy-duty bands clamped around box with plastic band protectors on the edges of the box, the box is fully-lined with soft foam, about a million soft foam chunks surrounding the skid plate, skid plate completely wrapped in plastic over soft foam protective padding. This skid plate could have gone down with the Titanic in 1912 and just been brought to the surface in perfect condition. Howard Carter could have opened King Tut's tomb in 1922 and found this skid plate untouched for 3,245 years and it would be ready for installation under my truck. I don't protect my children this well.
I'll see if I can find time to install this weekend.
This has me thinking. I might paint mine with black epoxy paint before installing it. Gotta check if the paint I have is still good.I see a silver skid plate and I want it painted black.
I'd bet stove spray paint for high heat would work wellI see a silver skid plate and I want it painted black.
Tuesday, April 1st. I immediately received a confirmation email, then about half hour later received a "your item is shipping email" then shortly after received tracking info saying it would arrive Thursday the 3rd. I felt like Wile E. Coyote ordering a rocket sled from Acme. When did you place the order?
On stuff like this, I've found that a simple high-quality black spray paint is fine, maybe hit it with a primer too. The skid plate is aluminum so the paint is not for corrosion protection, it's just to hide the part under there by painting it black. Going overboard on applying a coating isn't worth it because the coating will scrape off if you drag the truck over a rock - no coating can take that abuse. Simple black spray paint will only take a minute to touch-up. A simple but quality spray paint will also stand up to typical water, mud, gravel bouncing up off the tires, etc.I'd bet stove spray paint for high heat would work well

When I purchased, their website said 2 or 3 left in stock. As mentioned previously, this thread resulted in their stock being sold out.I'm 8 weeks out -
If you were a real humanitarian you would have offered yours to the less fortunate versus consuming the last for your own selfish use. Please reflect on this over the weekend with the appropriate beverage....When I purchased, their website said 2 or 3 left in stock.
