Poor Paint Quality on Running Board

Has anyone found the paint quality on the Running Boards to be subpar? Attached is a pic of the driver side. I have not gone offroad and typically wear shoes with rubber soles.

Makes me wonder if I got some defected paint. I haven't had issues like this on other areas of the vehicle.

we are having the same exact issue. I just contacted the dealer and they want me to bring it in to look at it in person.

we noticed it is right where I put my foot to enter and exit the car. Looks like it’s running off by friction. So frustrating. Have you contacted your dealer?

That trim piece is actually molded plastic with a thin silver coating, not a paint issue as you would find on other body panels. Surprisingly, this trim is a light duty plastic. In my opinion it is not spec'd properly for its use environment, as it takes a fair amount of daily abuse from stepping into the vehicle and road debris. Appears that Lexus really allowed cost cutting to get in the way of designing more rugged running boards.

I agree, it’s a cheap piece. Hopefully they will fix it with the warranty as it’s pretty unacceptable after owning the car for two months and we barely drive.

There is no question that Lexus marketed the GX 550 series as a "rugged" vehicle. I guess if you don't get the Overtrail edition you get the "plastic" running boards. Unacceptable.

Please let us know what the remedy is, as I'm sure Premium / Plus editions will all have this condition at some point. Thanks.

When I first got the vehicle it had one chip which I mentioned. They acted like it wasn't there problem, but now that it is extensively worse I will be aggressive about them fixing it.

I just haven't taken the time to go back to the dealer yet.

It looks nice. But not practical. It should be an anodized metal piece. Or powder coated. I have the electric running boards and my kids beat the crap out of it and I don’t care. It’s just solid metal.

Just a poor design decision to have that side piece finished in satin chrome that can easily wear off in daily use. While it does look nice offsetting the black tread, it would have been a better approach to have the strip all black. Any inevitable wear on that trim piece would not be noticeable to any extent.

I have rock sliders and noticed paint is chipping on an area even though I've never taken it offroad.
