I’ve got a big road trip planned in Dec from MN to CO. 3 weeks of skiing and visiting family all over the state. I recently went deep down the rabbit hole while researching a possible Tundra purchase and the engine issues people are having. Do we share the same engine as the non hybrid Tundra’s? It kind of has me paranoid and thinking we should take our 21 LC 200 Heritage instead of our Ot+ on our trip.

Anyone with relatively higher mileage on their 550’s with no issues? I’ll be sitting around 11k or more after the trip and planned on getting an oil change in Denver before the drive back.

Toyota indicated that the problem was caused by a faulty block cleaning process which they corrected. Both the Tundra and LX600 engines were made in the Huntsville AL plant. I believe the GX550 engines are built in Japan. I'm being optimistic that proper cause was identified and corrected before GX550 engines were built. I did find a spreadsheet online (don't know who put it together) and if accurate a few vehicles on the list had less than 10,000 miles.

I haven't heard of any GX 550s having this problem. Also, I'm not worried about it personally. Check out this video and pay attention to the part where talks about the superseding dates in the parts catalog.
