Yeah, the GrandTour Low. Total box dimensions were probably 8" tall but the way the inside was constructed, the floor of the box stood very high up from the bottom of the box. Not recommended. Your box looks great, and yes I like the idea of them better. This is with the Yakima box? 5" is really low. Sorry it didn't work out. MY Thule Motion Alpine XT easily fit longer and fat skis, 6 pairs of adult skis, including pow skis. Snowboards have to lie flat though. I even have height to lay a moving blanket to soften noise from skis when going over bumps. The box also has space for poles and some other stuff, there is at least 8 to 10" of vertical height inside. The reason I prefer boxes to exposed skis is I don't want to deal with road salt and dirt on the bindings when its snowing or raining. Also prefer boxes for security. The GX550 is already pretty tall and a full size box won't clear many garages.
I am picking up this box from rack attack today and wondering how it will fit snowboards. Do you have any pictures of your setup before you took it off?Yeah, the GrandTour Low. Bring your boards there and try them out before mounting. The regular grand tour will be better than the low, but wasn't long enough for my skis.I am picking up this box from rack attack today and wondering how it will fit snowboards. Do you have any pictures of your setup before you took it off?
