Looks like a few LC owners experiencing vibration as well if you do a Google search. Looks like you lucked out with a non-vibrating LC like most GX owners who own non-vibrating GX’s. They are essentially the same car with different powertrains
I don’t own a LC, but your post got me curious so i went to toyota LC problems forum and it looks like they suffer similar problems with squealing breaks and tranny issues. See link below:
https://www.landcruiserforum.com/forums/land-cruiser-issues-repairs-warranty.29/
For comparison, I have stock OT roof rack and my combined mpg is 17 with 6500 miles on odometer
My lexus dealer acknowledged squealing brakes issue, ordered replacement parts immediately, acknowledged hood flutter and said he’s waiting for “official fix” from lexus and will fix it when that...
Its likely your transmission and not brakes. Slowing down to 1-3 MPH, my transmission noticeably hard shifts down to first gear causing what feels like a thud/jerk. Is what you’re feeling consistent with what is discussed in the other thread mentioned above?
My OT consistently has the downshift thud going to first at 1-3 mph as well.
They’re replacing my brakes for the squeal next week and will get them to look at and report back
Thanks, I guess i need to reserve a chunk of time just navigating all system controls within car settings.
I have poked around the manual for specific things but just don’t have the time to read that phone book
I have a family. having to hold my hand on the driver door handle for 3 seconds to unlock ALL the doors was major annoyance to me.
At 5000 mile service they changed to ALL doors unlocking when touching driver door handle without having to hold hand there, but the key fob still requires 2...
Mine doesn’t have the shaking, but it has developed the brake squeal after 6500 miles.
When I took it in for 5000 mile service, i spoke to the service manager about all the problems I have read on the forum. I told him the brake squealing was intermittent, and he shockingly assured me that it...
Sorry to hear your experience. I will say if you had expectation that your GX should “feel” like a BMW X5, then it will not. A more proper comparison would be to a pickup truck or other BOF suv.
If feeling nothing is what you’re looking for, go to a unibody bmw, audi, porsche, infiniti...
My experience with mine is once i go above 65 mph, it kills any mpg over 20-21. 65 mph and below on cruise control is the most efficient way to achieve higher mpg in the 550.
With that said, I didn’t buy the car to be economical on gas. I enjoy experiencing the turbos from time to time
Multiple people on this thread have asked for someone to post a video of the vibration. If it is as violent/noticeable/consistent as explained with seatbelts rattling, then i’d think even a 3 -5 second video link would show what is experienced, but nobody has posted a video yet.
There is...
I must have missed that post on the squealing brakes thread. What, why, and where am I looking for a gold dot for on my brakes? I’ll go take a photo and post
My lexus dealer somehow got me 4.49% in late July through a bank called first south credit union. I gave them the best i could get (which was through PenFed credit union). They get kickbacks for placing financing, so if you get something competitive yourself, go to them with the...
For those reading this thread concerned about their incoming GX and are still waiting. You’re reading a thread of an unfortunate subset of GX owners who are having vibration and brake sound issues, BUT this is not everyone’s OT.
My OT drives smooth as butter and does not have the squealing...
I’d not change anything that you don’t know with 100% certainty of exactly what you’re doing. I wouldn’t give the manufacturer any reason to void your warranty
Interesting…. the people experiencing vibrations seem to feel them in different parts of the car. Earlier in this thread a different guy was stating his was shaking jarringly in the backseat, and he could visibly see the belt buckles dancing around….
For those claiming its the OT trim, I have...
It is indeed interesting that nobody has posted video of the vibration…. If it is vibrating on newly paved flat road, as some have said, then a simple glass of water half full will show the vibration rings.
Mine drives smooth as hell, tested for water rings with a glass of water on new paved...
Not all GX’s have vibration issues. Mine is smooth as butter. Best thing to do is test drive before signing, so you can know if you won the vibration unit lotto
100% it is the seat AC fan. Turn off the climate concierge and auto seat fan option.
This is a very easy thing to pinpoint. Start car, keep in park, turn off radio or any other sound. Turn the seat AC to level 3 and listen, then turn the seat AC off to see if sound stops. If sound...
- my deposit was refundable and applied to final sell. I’d walk if any dealer you deal with says otherwise
- i paid msrp. Seek out a different dealer if they charge a “adjustment” markup over msrp
- it is true there is no custom build; however, you can give them a very specific build, but you...
Apparently the carpet on the back of the seats is pretty sensitive. Looks like that has velcro and hooks for usability in addition to protecting back of 2nd row seats.
Im gonna get these below so my 7 year old doesn’t destroy the back of the 1st row seats
Where I am, the list is still 200 deep. Anyone that walks from their allocation that arrived at dealer, is replaced by the next person in line and sold in 5 minutes… literally 5 minutes.
I have mine now, but when I was waiting because of the hold at port, some dude walked from his. My guy...
Go on cargurus, autotrader, or any other sight to buy a used GX550. They’re all asking either msrp or in many cases well over msrp.
The reason you’re getting offered that is because carmax has to make money on the resale. They’re giving you $65k to then go resale for $74k.

@jreifler let me know what they say about your lean. Is it over 0.59 inches? Apparently that’s what is out of spec.
Haven’t towed yet cuz wanted to break in engine well first.
I’ll measure from hub to center wheel next time i fill up to get exact measurements and post in your lean thread...
