Considering cancelling my 2025 GX order.

One is the reported engine problems.
Another is the cracked windshield issue.
The squeaking brake issue doesn't bother me too much.
Forcing needles options that I don't want or need.
Fluttering hood issues isn't a deal breaker but point to poor design.
Possibility I can't get the paint color I want

Several other reported issues that individually wouldn't be a problem but all added together indicates overall poor quality builds.
To my knowledge there hasn’t been any GX with the v35FTS engine recall. This engine is ever so slightly different from the one in the sequoia and Tundra, it has smaller turbos to start. This engine is also made in Japan. Not the US like the aforementioned models. The LX issues were on 2022 and early 2023 models. No late 2023 or 2024 models seem to have problems with the main bearings. Plus Toyota warranty is amazing. Even with those issues that engine is measurably more reliable than anything Mercedes or Land Rover are churning out nowadays. In my unit a late 2024 GX OT I have no hood flutter and I actually saw (compared to the test drive GX at my dealer) it can be as easy as adjusting the rubber hood stops to mitigate or completely stop the hood flutter!

With regards to the options and dealer markups etc that’s the exact reason I went for a 2024 instead of waiting for a 2025. On average with my option set my 2024 came almost 6k under what a similarly spec 2025 could be. And I did take my sweet time going through every GX in transit until I found what I liked exactly.

With regards to the windshield. It’s pretty raked up, inherently it’s more susceptible to rock chips and cracks. But so is any jeep, defender or Bronco out there. There are special 3M exterior tints or films you could put on it to prevent it from happening. But at the end of the day it’s inevitable it could happen.

Out of all the trunks I’ve owned. And built with my father, this is the best so far. I couldn’t be happier with my choice.

I have had a deposit for a 2025 GX since September 2024. After reading all the problems on this and another GX forums I am seriously considering cancelling my GX order. I am really disappointed since I found this vehicle after a 3 year search for a replacement for my Mercedes ML500 suv. I really like the GX and the Toyota quality reputation but it's hard to ignore the problem risks.
A Lexus is significantly more reliable than any German vehicle, short term and especially long term. LEXUS vehicles are built to last and to own for decades.

If you cancel your order, based on the comments of a very small percentage of folks, someone else who actually appreciates the GX will be happy to acquire it.

No one can fault you for thinking that. But keep in mind it is a first model year, which will always have more bugs than normal. I’ve had mine for 3.5 months and 2100 miles and no issues other than brake squeal. Good luck with whatever you decide to get.

Same, have the little brake issue very minimal with part on way. Otherwise I absolutely love the car. Got to drive it on some snow the other week and it was an absolute beast.

BTW if you get on any vehicle forum or facebook group you could be looking at the highest rated vehicle in the world and you undoubtedly will be exposed to enough anecdotal complaints to make you think it is an absolute disaster.

Only have had my car for a month and have alittle over 1200 miles on it. Haven't had anything to really complain about other than the multimedia display rebooting itself once in awhile. I have a minor hood flutter at high speeds but I had that on other cars as well and doesn't bother me. Love it and glad we got it. You have to remember that most forums will always talk about issue and problems. You will very seldom see many posts about positive things as that is not the nature of these types of forums. :) Good luck on whatever you decide!

I have around 18K miles on my OT+ (I was the first in my area to get one). Had the break issue, fixed. The hood flutter bugs me, but other than that, it's been fine. It really quite versatile and I use it for general travel, light off-road, and for towing a 23 foot airstream. It's a fantastic all-around SUV - don't let a fe minor issues detour you. You'll never find a vehicle that's perfect. No matter which one you research, you'll always be able to find problems.

I get it and I think it depends on what you want it for. As you are coming off the ML500 I’m assuming you are not buying it for serious off roading?

We are coming off two GX (2011 and 2019.) Both were amazing vehicles.

We now have the 550Lux+. The new GX is lacking in several ways compared to the old:

Wind noise is ridiculous. Very taxing on an all-day freeway drive. This is our number one complaint. Is a major design flaw.

Passenger seat is not as comfortable as the old GX. They took away some adjustment options.

The storage for the driver/front passenger is lacking and the cool box is dumb. Minor issue, but still - Give me a place to put my sunglasses?

Quality is definitely a little less than previous models. I had the massage issue (hose fell off that I fixed) and the brake squeal (still waiting on dealership to get the parts.)

There a few other minor annoyances (the “cargo mat”?) but these can be more subjective.

In all it adds up to a few big issues and a few minor, but they should not be there for a vehicle commanding $85k+.

As someone said, this is the first year but too late for me and too soon to know if they are going to correct their issues going forward.

I recently canceled a deposit on a GX. I've owned 2 different non-Toyota first year vehicles with brand new to the model motors, one vehicle being a new design and entry into the US market. Both were rock solid vehicles. Yes, the GX 550 has had some issues, but my reason was more a result of being forced into the plus model just to get something as simple as an adjustable power lumbar front passenger seat. And being pushed into a '25 model with a big price jump due to more features I didn't need, in addition to being forced into other "options" I didn't want from the '24 model, put us into a situation where the GX wasn't really the right vehicle for us. Not to say I don't like the GX, it's just that we decided not to drop $82k for a vehicle that doesn't quite suit our needs.

We have had or Premium Plus since June. We had had zero issues. Many of the issues are overblown and no one stands behind their vehicles like Lexus does. I do not know of any manufacturer that has not had an issues but Lexus has the fewest. What would you move to? I have had Mercedes and Audi and VWs and they are not good, but fun to drive. I went to this Lexus to get away from the lack of reliability of European vehicles and the expense of repairs.

Same here. I got mine (Luxury) in Oct (2K miles now) and no issues so far.
Same here 3k no issues at all with the brakes, the window did crack out of nowhere tho, hard to tell what happened if it’s a defect from Lexus since I’ve seen that happened to someone else.

Can you tell where in life there is no risk ,what automobile companies never had issues Toyota/LEXUS AND APPLE Identify problems and fix them sometimes not to speed in which we would like, but they fix them other automobile agencies always just got their hand out for government assistance. Pull on the misery. Good luck whatever decision you make.

I just picked mine up. 2024 OT. It is simply awesome. Every car has some issues. This is a tank!!

I regret getting this car and tell everyone who asks that it is the worst vehicle I’ve ever owned. We loved prior models of the GX. I am trying to sell this 550; willing to take a loss I’m so disappointed in getting this piece of junk.

Thanks for the informative post! You've apparently owned nothing but great vehicles. I'll give you USD$5k cash for the GX, pending visual inspection, of course. Live facetime walk-around will suffice.

Interesting you are wary of moving from a mercedes to anything and being concerned about problems. Mercedes are not known for longevity. Also, besides luxury and both being suv’s the two are designed for different things

If you were to compare quality and finish between a ml500 and a gx550, i might understand

I’m guessing you won’t have too much trouble selling it if you really wanted. When I brought mine in to have the brake squeal fixed the dealer offered to buy my OT for ~$80k

We have really spent a long time on this one. I love my OT and the wife and I take it to the desert every other week. It's the best truck I have ever owned and I have owned a lot of trucks. All the bashing is making me a little weary. If there are problems Lexus is going to address them. You can bank of that. Now I think we should move on to some fun experiences.

I’ve had mine a few months. Waiting on the brake fix. The hood flutter bothers me. It is NOT a highway rig. Compared to our GL 450 Mercedes which is a superb highway vehicle. I’m going to keep this 550 OT as a vehicle for a second home in the mountains for short drives and off road capability. I wouldn’t get another and I’m thinking I’d be happier with the Range Rover.
