GX550 30 Day Stop Sale?

On May 6, my OT was still in the build phase. It was due in Jax on June 12. Scheduled at dealer on June 27. Mine was affected by the QC hold, so when it arrives is anybody's guess.
To all who has been affected from the beginning my feeling is we will suffer the most as logic goes first come first served Toyota tundras and LX 600s will be first us in the middle marginal releases new builds before us it’s capitalism. Take care of the first issue. The ones that have been corrected to the dealer first and then they’ll just play with us good luck to all that satisfaction will be for all of us

Not trying to burst anyone’s bubble but our GX has been sitting in Port Jacksonville since mid-late April. It was placed on QC hold with no real information given. The dealer mentioned if they get allocations in that don’t have the hold from newer lots that we would be given priority at that run. However, a lot of the vehicles it seems do not receive the hold until they are unloaded at the port. Our dealer is trying to get permission from Lexus corporate in order for them to give us a loaner. We had traded in our vehicle (2016 Tacoma) because I was leaving for work and the dealer told us that our GX was due any day. It was nearly a week before the official 5/17 QC hold. Wife got stuck renting cars while I was away and now I’m home from a month trip to work with still no vehicle. At least in the meantime I bought a Honda Acty to daily drive for myself.

I think the big question we don’t know the answer to yet is- are the units that are being built AFTER the hold was put in place fixed/was the issue addressed or are they shipping and addressing at the port. What a mess

Paint issue?????

I’m waiting for my OT+ thats on the QC hold at the port of Jax. Today i got a message from my dealer they have a Premium Caviar that came in and is available. I decided to consider it and take a look. It was nice but I really don’t want black and the premium is missing a few things that I really want. I decided to take a hard look at the paint and look for any other defects. Sure enough on the passenger side of the hood and part of the passenger side front fender at the seam running front to back there was damage about 3’ to 4’ long. It was subtle but once you saw it and looked close you could easily see how long it was. I can’t believe this wouldn’t have been caught in QC check if this was the issue they are looking for. Anyone taking delivery check that paint close.

I can say that my allocation was built and shipped after the QC holds. It wasn't placed on a hold until it was on the boat in the middle of the ocean. I would have assumed if they started to see an issue they would have addressed it before sending out new builds. But who knows. Only Lexus.

I have a friend who strongly suggested I sell my GX premium plus because of a recent article about the difficulty someone had trading in an older Tundra. I mentioned the time frame for the recall did not include my build date or model and I have a 6 year 70K warranty. He was in a panic about how the recall would affect all models with the twin turbo V6 impacting their sales/trade-in value. This is Lexus and I have confidence it will be resolved and so far GX’s have not been included. After taking ownership I am so pleased with the upgraded model and there isn’t any other SUV that interests me. The Defender comes close however reliability is a known factor… so no way am I willing to part ways with my GX
According to the NHTSA Defect Report, V35A-FTS engines manufactured after Jan 2023 should be okay, and I have a feeling Japan corrected the problem before the USA did. I do suspect that some engines made before that date did make their way into a small amount of 2024 vehicles, possibly due to a stockpile of engines created by supply-chain issues slowing down overall vehicle production. I think the chances of one of those tainted engines making its way into a GX 550 are extraordinarily low. I also think that this voluntary recall of 2022-2023 Toyota and Lexus vehicles with that engine has to be pretty painful for the Toyota executives to authorize, because they have shareholders to answer to. The absolute last thing they would want to have to do is issue another recall for the same problem, so I imagine this first recall is aggressive. Now, the GX 550 should have an array of unforeseen issues with mass-production as it's a first model year vehicle and mass producing perfect vehicles is hard, so it's almost certainly going to have some relatively minor problems.

There’s some Japanese quality control guy that’s now unemployed at the GX factory.

Lexus takes their QC very serious and is doing the right thing to ensure any issues are resolved. Think about the quality of some of our domestic brands or other brands that would just roll the dice and let things go. Then deal with the issues as they occur. Lexus and Toyota are regularly the top in JD power quality ratings and there’s a reason they’re at the top.
Send some Kool Aid over my way. I'm getting thirsty as I wait through issue after issue.

Salesman finally told that the delay was due to the headliner requiring additional adhesive.
Response from salesman….
“Hoping yours will release soon. We did find out what the FI hold is for. The headliner on the interior needed another couple pieces of adhesive to secure it smoothly to the roof line. Very small thing, but Lexus wanted to fix that issue so it wouldn’t disappoint the customer if it wasn’t fitting snug or ‘sagged’ a bit.”
🤷

..and this adhesive requires 56 minutes to apply, however we are keeping it for 56 days to make sure it does not sag a bit afterwards.

What’s next??

Hi all, I’ve been lurking for months and finally posting. I got a Premium allocation at Naples Lexus in April, arrived at port 5/16, put on hold 5/20. Weekly updates from sales rep with no change, except today he told me a couple were updated and should be on way to dealer, but not mine.

Hoping things move soon as I’m counting down the days until I can get out of my POS Tesla.

After seeing the Toyota news this morning I called my salesperson to get an update or basically give up my allocation and move on to something else.

Although our GX has no updates to it's status (on hold in Long Beach since 5/13) he did provide me somewhat of an update on the overall hold. He said they had some meeting/training this week and he was told it's definitely a sunroof issue and it's actually impacting new TX's and not just GX's. They are getting in and delivering the sales of GX550 Luxury+'s with panoramic and also OT's with the sunroof delete (dammit we passed on one of these in the first allocation so the dog could "snurf"=snot+surf )

They have an OT in the showroom and a Premium+ to test drive so we're going to stop over either this afternoon or tomorrow. Gonna push to drive the OT but it kinda sounded like that one wasn't one they were letting go out so they could sell it "new".

He's frustrated too as they have 48 GX's currently in hold status and no word from Lexus as too when they will be done. Could this Toyota stop/pause be so that parts could be shifted to correct the vehicles currently sitting at the dock first and deliver on sales? Who knows, but my wife is happy she will actually get to sit in an Overtrail shortly. So I am also happy.

Did they happen to mention what trim the ones that are coming in were? Sounds like the Luxury+ ones are moving since they don’t have a sunroof.

I thought the pano roof was only available on the Luxury+ models?
