Milage Until Empty

So the digital range formula sees to be:

Display Range "Miles" after fill up = (21 gallons - (60 miles of reserve / current "avg." MPG)) / current avg. MPG

So despite anyone's avg mpg it seems we all should have about 60 miles of reserve fuel. Be it 3, 4, 5 or 6 gallons in reserve.

Does anyone know the trick for resetting the milage until empty. I will drive until and get down to about 20 estimated miles left until empty. But when I fill up, I only can squeeze in 17 gallons. I would like to get the estimated miles left accurate to represent the 21-gallon capacity. My MPG is around 20.2 when I filled up. I have 2000 miles so far and I thought it might have fixed itself but not yet…
I just purchased a 2025 Lexus GX 550 Premium Plus a few days ago. I assumed that something was wrong with the "miles to empty" counter when I filled up my gas tank for the first time. Now I know that I'm not the only one with this concern. For such an expensive SUV, Lexus could have given a more accurate miles to empty counter.

Agree with how Lexus does this is very poor.
From the moment I hit “0” miles remaining (the refuel light has already been on), my fill up is 17-18 gal. Once it hits “0” there isn’t always a gas station perfectly nearby.
So I just assume, plan - always - that I only have a conservative 50 miles remaining max.

Not much different than our 29 yr old Land Cruiser. The light turns on with 5 gallons left in the 25 gallon tank. You then start to do mental math quickly and conservatively give yourself a 10-12 mpg estimate which then gets you....50-60 miles with the light on. How do other cars do it better?
