Great info, Bajafrenzy, thank you.

He said he has a 34x10.5x17 under there so it is not the stock Overtrail 18-inch wheel.

I bought a stock Toyota 4th-gen 4Runner 17-inch wheel that is 7.5" wide and it has a 30mm offset. I'm hoping a 34x10.5x17 will tuck up into the spare location under the cargo bay. Even if a 35x12.5x17 would fit diameter-wise, it would hang far too low.

I bought 5 method wheels when I ordered them because I didn’t want to worry about backspacing issues on the front wheels if I had to replace a flat up front. It’s easy enough to get around, not a deal breaker, but I’m lazy and didn’t want the extra step of moving one of the rear wheels up front and spare on the rear, in that scenario. What size tire are you running? A 285/75r18 is closer to 35” I think, so if you’re running a 285/75r17 on the methods, you should probably size down to a 70 aspect ratio on the 18” wheel. Talk with the tire shop though. I’m just speculating. A 34x10.5x17 fits perfect. That’s my truth I’m sticking to! Haha.
Thanks, I think I will take the lazy way out too. I just need to make sure the new wheel and tire will fit.

Installed the new tailgate lights. What a total PIA. I hate working with body panels and interior panels. I installed the single middle LED light on the underside of the tailgate first because this one came with directions and I knew this one had to piggy-back off the little tiny LED on the left side near the jack (there're 2 tiny little LEDS on the left and right sides of the cargo space). The Amazon directions show this single light piggy-backing off the tailgate up/down switch but the kit they sent had to be routed all the way to the little tiny LED by the jack. So I had to run the wires from the jack area up the inside trim on the left side, through the rubber weather-proof wiring protector (this was a really special PIA), and then down the right side trim, across & behind the cargo door trim by the subwoofer, to the middle space where there was previously a black blank plastic piece. What a pain. But this new LED is bright and it will make a difference. Of course, the $80+k truck should have come with a friggin' light there in the first place.

Then comes the double-light that replaces the finger grab handle with a light and 2 switches and keeps the two tailgate raise/lock switches on the right side but adds a light to this little panel. I thought that these two lights must just piggy-back off the tailgate raise/lock switch but this package didn't come with directions. I had to lay it all out and figure it out and of course it had the same piggy-back plug setup for the little tiny LED near the jack. I routed the wire all the way down to the jack area again but I muttered a big F*CK IT and didn't try to get this second plug through the tight rubber weatherproof conduit. I just ran it out of the interior trim and over the rubber gasket and back behind the headliner & interior trim in the upper left corner of the cargo area (see arrow in last pic). For the piggy-back arrangement, I just piggy-backed off the first piggy-back. These LEDs are pretty bright too. The red LEDs are a nice touch, as is the yellow/white strobe setting. I'll have to drive out into total darkness tonight and check it out. Installation was a royal pain in the ass, of course a few of the cheap plastic trim clips broke but all the trim pieces are in place and holding tight.

Saw the single light you added on Amazon - which are the 2 lights you added where the close/lock buttons are and the other side? Also, you noted that Amazon sent you the light that was not the one for the power tailgate that looked like a pain to install. Do you know if the one for the power tailgate just connects to the close button side versus all the way to the jacks?

Here are the two I ordered from Amazon:

Single center tailgate light:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DNLXL6L2?tag=lexusgx-20

Double lights:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DL5YCLTF?tag=lexusgx-20

There have been other links to these lights on Alibaba or Temu or some other china websites but I decided to pay a bit more through Amazon so I could return if needed. As I remember it, it was one of those cheesy china sites that had directions showing at least one of the lights (either the single central light or the double lights) simply piggy-backing off the tailgate raise/lower switch.

I though I was getting one light kit that piggy-backed off the tailgate open/close switch and the other light kit would piggy-back off the little tiny LED near the jack.

Turns out both of my kits piggy-backed off the little LED near the jack.

Thanks for the info - I just ordered the double lights. I did find one light (still waiting for it to arrive) that 'supposedly connects to the power lift gate. If it does - I'll then attached the double lights to that rather than try to go all the way back to the jack.

Did you use a Dremel to cut the panel for the single light?

That's a real beast of a truck. Way beyond where I want to take mine. This is my daily driver and I seek to find a pleasing compromise between comfortable and good looking daily driver, useful and convenient as my work truck, capable off road, and fun & easy for camping.

I agree. If it’s not something I’ll functionally use - it gets as silly as putting a wing on a Miata thinking it’s a suddenly a race car. Even on the some of the front bumpers - they are trimming so much off the front it messes with the lines of the vehicle for marginal approach angle improvement. The extended fuel tank is a big interest for me given the range today - will need to have to it installed outside the People’s Republic of CA though…

I've really been digging these extra tailgate lights. They make a huge difference in a dark parking lot. I now have a giant bubble of white light around the back of the truck where it was previously a black hole. I also just realized that the single central light that faces straight down turns on & off just by touching the light anywhere on the plastic cover. I'm looking forward to using these lights next time I'm camping and it's absolutely pitch black.

I’ve ordered the 3 lights from Amazon and are looking forward to getting out of the dark ages back there

Would love to see the Dissent GX550 in person. I may start with the sliders first. I do like the visual of the front cutting some of the vertical face away but would likely miss the cornering lights. Will be a while out still, but my go to right now when surfing for build pictures.

99% sure I just saw this GX that's featured on Dissent's website cruising through town here in CO. Great looking rig!

It looked pretty badass. I came up behind it one lane over, and it had so much gear on the back I didn't recognize it as a GX until I got right next to it. Pretty sure it's Atomic Silver, and the color looked great up close.

I absolutely hate the warning decals that our nanny regulators mandate for the sun visors in all vehicles nowadays. On previous vehicles I've been able to remove these decals with isopropyl alcohol and some heat, if needed, but that didn't work on my GX550 because the decals are infused into the fabric covering the sun visors. My previous vehicles have all had the vinyl material covering the sun visors. For my Porsche I just ordered a pair of European sun visors that of course don't have the idiot stickers because Europeans assume their drivers have IQs above room temperature.

I had a discount coupon from Stickerfab after ordering their steering wheel cover and their B-pillar seat belt protection decals (more on these items coming up), so I ordered their black vinyl decals to stick over the warning decals. There are two idiot stickers on the driver's side and one on the passenger side because clearly the average American driver is twice as stupid as the average American passenger.

It's not ideal - they are clearly black vinyl decals on the sun visors, but it's better than the idiot stickers. The other solution would be to remove the sun visors and have them refinished in vinyl or some kind of fake or real leather.

In the photos the decals really stand out but in reality they blend in very well. Stickerfab also supplies you with two of each decal so you have two full sets in case they start to peel or whatever.

In this picture you can see where I tried to peel the idiot sticker in the upper right corner. I soaked a folded-over paper towel in isopropyl alcohol and let it sit on the decal for 5 minutes but it wouldn't release the decal from the fabric:
