Roughness while idling?

Everyone who has surging at idle.

Just got call from dealer.. The tech confirms..

Lol rest comfortabley.. Quote. "they all do it".. "an emissions related feature"

I suggested that lx owners not bringing this forward re their vehicles.. Asked them to notify lexus that they confirmed they see it in mine...

Also told. The brake squeak repair. Has another. Service bulletin today.. Just issued in addition to the one on 8th of October... Waiting to see a copy...

Sorry to hear your experience. I will say if you had expectation that your GX should “feel” like a BMW X5, then it will not. A more proper comparison would be to a pickup truck or other BOF suv.

If feeling nothing is what you’re looking for, go to a unibody bmw, audi, porsche, infiniti, acura, cuz no 550 will “feel” as smooth as those

On the other side of the coin, none of the other luxury brands i listed above have the offroad or towing capabilities of your 550, as you bought a luxury capable off-roader, not a pavement princess
Have you driven a LX570, LX600 or GX460? I have and the they all have BOF chassis and are smooth with non of the roughness of the GX550. This has nothing to do with unibody as the engine is rough at idling.

Edit: I agree that the unibodies with be smoother, I wasn't trying to compare the overall vehicle smoothness, just the engine. Maybe I should not have brought up the B58 as that is probably the industry benchmark for inline 6 and the GX has a V6.

Got the key.. The removed nuts not left in vehicle.. They did put the key and the hitch pin in the vehicle

Sorry if not clear

How do you use a wheel lock key in middle of winter ice and snow packed in the nut. Have to heat to melt or have something to dig out ice.. I mud you best have water in the car to try and flush out.
can't say ive ever had an issue getting the key onto the socket personally but yea im not a big advocate for locking wheel nuts on off roaders...

I mentioned it at the dealership picking it up. I didn't even feel it until I got in the backseat at idle. You can't hear it, only feel. And it's much more apparent outside the drivers seat. Passenger seat, back seat. It just feels rough. It almost feels like an older vehicle when the torque converter is worn and you get some trembling at a stop light. I don't notice it unless it's parked, but I drive most of the time. It's going in to have the 12vdc socket fixed and the 120v plug fixed (hot and neutral are switched) on Thursday, having them look into the rough idle as well.

I’m 5k miles with our 550. Maybe, just maybe the roughness gets better with time .. I don’t notice the rough idling as much now, or it could be I got used to it lol.. otherwise the car has been great except for some small issues here and there, squealing brakes (random), and the infotainment resetting for no reason.. happened 3 times .. it just shuts down and reboot for no reason

Feel like all car infotainment screens do this periodically

I feel this intermittently, doesn't matter if the car's warmed up or not. As other's mentioned it feels like the timing is slightly off and RPMS will bounce around a bit. I told my dealer about it during my first service and they said they felt it, noted it in my file and are contacting Lexus about it. They said there's nothing in the system but will keep an eye out and are willing to get into repairs if this continues.

It's not terrible but I will keep bringing this up every time I go in.

Mine seems to be getting worse as approach 3k miles. Its the same unstable rpms in park at idle, but when in drive, stopped at a light, its pretty bad. like a mid 90's LeSabre !

I just experienced this issue today, didn't notice until I had my music turned off idling at a red light. It almost sounded like someone using a jack hammer miles away where you can faintly hear it, then I realized clicks would get faster as I revved my engine up. Only happens at idle until 2300-2400 RPMs. It sounds like a quiet clicking noise in the cabin with the windows up. Going to get in there tonight and investigate where the noise is actually coming from.
Edit: Just passed 4k miles.

Hi, yes have both rough idle and the infotainment resetting for no reason.

I was finally able to capture a video of it after many attempts as it can be quiet random as you say.

Initially it would only ever do it for me when going from Reverse to Park, now it can happen from Drive to Park.

Naturally it wouldn't play up in front of the dealer, and they asked if it only ever happened at home in case it was an issue of my IPhone swapping to WiFi. I confirmed that it can happen anywhere and when the Iphone is only connected to Cellular.

I found it only started happening after the last software update in Feb, of course my Iphone always has the latest IoS. Dealer suggested wait until next Lexus software update.

Just weighing in on this rough idle problem. This is what I emailed to the dealer.

Initially there was the occasional slight rough idle when stopped at traffic lights, this is becoming more pronounced (such that you can feel the car vibrate) and occurs more often. Typically, around the 700rpm range when idling at running temp. Have only used BP 98 to always fill up the car. It’s not evident in a friend’s Tundra with the same family of engine albeit hybrid.

Naturally they couldn't replicate the fault when they inspected it. They did acknowledge others have reported the same problem to the Brisbane/Australia dealership. The dealer describes it as being like a stumble and that they all do it. They also said the engine mounts are very solid and this translates the vibrations into the cabin. And they offered that I could drive the dealer demonstrators to see if these experience the same vibration. Naturally it's not throwing any codes either.

Like others here, I am not impressed that an engine and vehicle such as this has such a rough idle. We have a 12 year old V6 Highlander/Kluger that is smooth as and I came out of LC200 series 4.5l V8 Twin Turbo Diesel which never idled as rough.

Don't get me wrong I love my GX550, and am glad I didn't get an LC300, but I expected a petrol V6 to be smoother than this.

Keen to hear if anyone gets an update on this situation.

Remember those old commercials of champagne glasses on top of a V8 Lexus LS with not a drop spilled. Now they should have Martini's with Bond saying, shaken... not stirred. That describes this engine to a T! My dealer also told me "they all do it, it's normal" as if I should just accept it and move on.
