đź’¸ The 'official' I put my deposit down list...

Hello. We are ready to purchase and visited a small Lexus dealer in Hampton Roads, VA. They want a non-refundable deposit against a 7 month wait list for a "maybe we'll get something you like but won't talk about price until the actual vehicle comes in." I will not do that but am curious if that is common with Lexus. We've owned Toyotas, Jeeps, Dodge Ram, and Acura and I've never had a sales person (let alone two) try to go that route. We walked. There are several dealers between Baltimore, DC, Richmond, and the Triangle and we get to those areas regularly so there are other options with in easy driving distance. I am aware of the "if we build it, they will come" from Lexus in terms of cranking out optioned and packaged vehicles and am happy to have that conversation against a refundable deposit. But the nonrefundable bit was a surprise given it is against no specific vehicle, no specific price point, and no specific timeline. Wife and I are looking for a Premium Plus with nothing additional beyond Premium Plus spec. It's a unicorn and we're willing to wait. Has anyone put down refundable deposits with multiple dealers to get "more lines in the water?"
I purchased my premium plus at Pohanka in Chantilly VA near Dulles AP. They were taking a $1000 fully refundable deposit prior to the vehicle release in the beginning of the year. They were great to work with and will get you the vehicle you want.

Why put a deposit down and wait when you can shell out only a couple bucks to get a used one with 3K miles right away?

That's INSANE!

Deposit made at Longo Lexus (largest SoCal dealer). Premium+ in eminent white pearl. Currently 406 on the list but I'm good with the wait as my goal was to have it after March 1st.

Placed my $1k deposit today with Burdick in Cicero (Syracuse). Basic 2025 Earthly OT. 6+ mo. wait which is OK as my Pilot runs fine (and gets better gas mileage).

Nice! Congrats. 6 months wait is not long. I put my $1K deposit down for an incognito/ black roof OT+ with chateau interior back in early May 2024 in Memphis, TN. Was just told this past week that the next allocation is mine! My dealership gets only one of these like every other month.

Can you explain how the "allocation" process works?
According to my salesperson, they are told (allocated) every two weeks the vehicles that are coming their way. They don’t necessarily get to pick and choose the trims, etc. although the dealership’s list of trims ordered by buyers on a waitlist is shared with the regional allocation manager. The actual delivery date of a vehicle once it’s allocated could 6-8 weeks out. You’ll want to ask your salesperson to inform you when you are up for the next allocation of whatever trim you ordered. Ask for full specs of the vehicle including FIO’s and PIO’s (factory installed and port installed options) and plead for any PIO’s to be “deleted” before the vehicle arrives at port. Some forum members have had success in getting some PIO’s deleted like rock rails and roof racks. You can also ask for options to be added like all weather floor liner and trunk liner. Hope that helps.

Perfect description! Exactly how it worked for me, including getting PIO's removed. I gave them a choice of 2 colors and any interior color, which opened up a lot of choices and they said that speeds things up a lot. It only took 3 weeks for a match to my 2nd choice color on a newly built 2025. It was more loaded than I really wanted, but at least they agreed to drop the roof rack.

Only things to add to this are:
1) For the FIO, basically everything in 2024 came with HUD, winter,. digital key and traffic jam assist.
2) Talk to them now about the ability to delete PIO and when you can do it. Some sales people have claimed that it's impossible or against dealer policy. If you are cost sensitive push back and get a manager to tell you that.

I’m struggling to decide which way to go with my order. I have a deposit down on a 2025 Overtrail in Nori Green with Chateau interior with my local dealer. They have not identified a vin for me yet so it’s refundable, I’ve specified I don’t want any of the major PIO and they said ok to that but the MSRP is going to be around $75,890. It’s been two weeks and no VIN assignment yet.

There’s a dealer about 3 hours away who is showing a 2024 Overtrail in the same specs set for deliver in the next two weeks and it doesn’t have a buyer. MSRP is $71,690, so $4,200 less. This dealer does charge a $1,700 markup though so the actual difference is $2,500.

I would prefer the memory seats on the 2025 and I’m agnostic to the lift, aux switches, and compressor, but nice to have. The major difference is timing. I know what this cheaper one has on it and I can get it much sooner, but I’m hoping the dealer I have a deposit with will honor the no PIO requests and it’s looking like late April/May until a car would even arrive.

I’m tempted to just get the 2024 currently.

I placed my deposit for OT model, December 21st , expecting mid 2025 delivery. Reached out to the dealer on Jan 2nd to ask about allocation frequency, and he responded that he had an OT+ Atomic allocation available. I accepted.

Built 12/20/24, arrived at port 01/13/25, and expected at the dealer by 02/20/25.

At this stage, I’d expect build quality to be similar to 2025 models, but without the 1” lift, AUX buttons, and onboard air compressor. Happy to save $3200.

The 2024 OT also does not have memory seats. So you won't be getting that either.

I’ll have the memory seats. My original dealer request was for the OT, but the dealer offered the OT+, and I accepted.

Yes, it costs more than the OT, but with the 2025 increases, the price gap narrows between 2024 OT+ and 2025 OT.
