I have had my OT+ for five months, and now I'm excited to install the first modification - Victory 4x4 Rear Shock Skids!

These rear shock skids will protect the rear shock mount and the body, not just from impacts with rocks. During my few desert runs with my GX, the rear shock mounts have already seen some good days. (I am not too concerned about the OEM shocks, they will be replaced one day anyway)

I cleaned off all the dust and touched up the paint. Now it’s time to install the shock skids before the rear shock mount gets completely sandblasted!

The Victory 4x4 rear shock skids appear to be the only option available on the market at the moment. I like their design because they don't require the use of the shock mount bolt for installation, which means that bolt won't absorb impact if the skid hits an obstacle. Additionally, they feature large drain holes on the sides.

It took a little under a month for them to arrive after my purchase. The package includes two identical skids, along with eight sets of bolts, washers, and tab nuts.

For each skid, use the two holes on the shock mount to install the inner bolts. Ensure that the flat side of the tab nut is facing outward.

Perform the same procedure symmetrically for the two outer bolts. We found it helpful to jack up the rear axle and remove the wheels to access these two bolts more easily.

There was quite a play on the skid, so we first tightened the outer bolts to push the skid inward, which provided more clearance for the tire. Since there was no torque specification in the installation guide, we torqued all the bolts to 25 lb-ft.

A small twist on the passenger side: the skid interfered with the clip for the adaptive damper harness. We had to pinch the clip, but it still holds securely.
