Was surprised to see 292 miles of range today. As others have mentioned, your current mpg is factored into the result. I believe the range is improving overall.

Mine has crept up to 310-315 over the past several thousand miles. First few thousand miles it was in the 295-300 range. I have 8k on it now, have taken two long trips (each about 3500 round trip, much interstate but some secondary). I drive over the speed limit 5-10 usually (just kidding if law enforcement is reading this).

I see approx 285, but when I fill it at "20 miles till empty" it never takes more than 17 gallons. I've never seen 300+.
Maybe I'm not filling it all the way up.

Getting same MPG and commute as a 5th gen 4Runner, but that will take 19.5 gallons if run that low. It will also read 310-345 per tank on full.

My understanding is they have the same size tanks.

My miles-to-empty range is usually in the 250s after I fill up.

I just updated my spreadsheet with my 52nd entry (52 fill-ups....I've probably missed 3 or 4 fill-ups). My average gallons filled is 17.3, average miles driven is 249.4, average mpg is 14.44.

Asking what estimated range people get when filling up is just asking them what their typical fuel economy is.

The car only accounts for about 18 gallons (that’s about how much you will put in when you hit zero miles indicated due to how conservative Lexus/Toyota is).

So multiply your recent economy by 18 and that’s going to be pretty close to what the car will estimate. Are you on a long road trip and you’re getting 20 mpg? It’ll probably be over 350 next time you fill up. Are you driving around town mostly and getting 16 mpg? It’ll be in the 280s. Worse mpg? It’ll be even lower.

Also remember that you basically don’t even need to start thinking about filling up until you get close to when it says “refuel” at zero miles (unless you’re in the middle of nowhere) since you still have 3 gallons left at that point.

I'm at 325-330. Our avg mpg read out is 18.2 mpg. This has been recorded (averaged) over the last 5k miles including the winter fuel. I expect it to go up a little in summer.

Wow. How? We get like 264 or something close.
I did too until i drove it more. Now my mileage shows 306 when I fill up and then I know I have additional miles left in the reserve that doesn’t get calculated. It’s like the car had to learn more driving habits etc. Maybe it’s the same for you?

At 2K miles, I get 307 on a full tank. Last average MPG at fill up was 18.5. (Total miles since last fill up divided by range in miles).

Mine shows around 220. But, if it’s deriving that number from its “instant” calculator don’t put a lot of reliance on it. I don’t know how far back it reaches for the instant readout, but it’s probably fairly short term. I’ve only filled my new GX550 twice and all of my driving has been city stop and go. My Boxster uses a similar readout. At full up it read 405 miles to empty. I drove it 97 miles today. When I parked it the estimate had only dropped to 380–because I was on mostly open highways and at relatively low speeds, enjoying the Spring weather.
Once I do a bonafide road trip to the Gulf in a couple weeks I’ll have a much better idea of the GX’s true range.
But folks should remember that we don’t buy full-sized luxury SUVs with a relatively small (but strong) engine, haul all our gear and loved ones, and still expect 20+ MPG. I’ll be satisfied at 15-17 mpg for highway. My city driving is averaging around 14.3-14.7 so far. And I’ve been switching back and forth between normal and Sport settings. Not a huge difference in mpg, but I like the pep and longer shift intervals in Sport mode. Peace.
