Cracked Windshield (non impact) < 500 mi

I happened to start my gx 550 this morning and discovered 2 4inch cracks on the bottom center, then I started driving and used my wipers to clean the windshield and the crack expanded to 1.5 foot. I don't think this was from an impact. I have a warranty but it only covers the windshield repairs which have to be less then 6 inch cracks.

I would caution using insurance to replace windshields. Most carriers only allow 2 comprehensive claims a year/every two years. It varies by carrier, state, etc. but could find yourself looking for a new carrier with higher premiums.

Sadly, this is good advice. Even though there is a zero deductible on windshield replacements, it still counts as a claim, and they dropped me after a couple of incidents. Insurance companies, in general, all have the same dreaded policy. Once you enter a claim (glass or non-glass) and even if there is no payout minus the deductible, the claim "counts" and is reported on a national database. And when you get picked up by a new carrier, they will know...

Anyone else with this issue?

I reached out to the dealer, waiting to hear back.

Same exact issue here, it happened when I was sitting in a parking lot, I literally heard it and saw it happening

Mine is about 6”, I bought those windshield repair kits from Autozone and so far it hasn’t continue to spread.

This just happened to my windshield. Started cracking from behind the passenger side wiper. This is my second windshield because the first one was cracked by a rock.

This just happened to my windshield. Started cracking from behind the passenger side wiper. This is my second windshield because the first one was cracked by a rock.

By one or two of those windshield crack repair kits, that’s what I did and it stopped the spread. It happened to me when it had less than 1000 miles and I didn’t want to touch the windshield because it was almost new. I put one on the top and one in the middle of the crack and so far it has worked.
