I also planned on changing out my oil at 1k and 5k to get it checked. Sounds like you did all the things I planned on doing.
I changed my oil at 1K. According to bobistheoilguy, the factory supplied oil is extra high in Zinc, to help the breaking in process, so I added extra Zinc after the 1K change to help it along to the 5K change. And I don't recall what the Lexus recommendation is, but I won't go past 5K oil change intervals. TheCarCareNut guy says going past 5K is one way to drastically shorten engine life.Three oil changes to this point, 5k, 10k and 15k, all good…on miles 16k as we speak.
Speaking of TheCarCareNut, does anyone know if the GX550 has a similar OEM shock system to the 4Runner Limited? This "poorly designed" shock absorber system on the 4Runner Limited (only the Limited model) have connected hydraulics on each side, front-rear, so that if one shock starts leaking then both fail. It was because of this "poorly designed" system that he recommends avoiding all used 4Runner Limited for purchase, as repairs can be very expensive.
