OEM+ DASHCAM BY FITCAMX REVIEW

But wanted to try using super strong nano tape first
What a good idea! I've NEVER even heard of Nano tape! The obvious advantage being that you don't need a hole to mount the camera.
But despite the hole, I like having the wire go directly through, rather than around the edge of, the trim piece so that the wire doesn't interfere with the rubber weather stripping

I wish is that both front, rear cams had a built in tiny flashing red light
This should be rather straight forward to do, especially for the front camera. You'd probably need that sentry wire that FITCAMX sells to bring power to the camera, and then install a small red diode. Here's one that's already wired to blink: Red Blinking Diode

FWIW, a few mediocre pics of how my rear cam looks.
One thing I wish is that both front, rear cams had a built in tiny flashing red light (powered by whatever means) when the car is parked and off (even though mine doesn’t have the parking mode). Basically a fake security warning..
Looks great 👍

K1autogx550 recommended using magnets, so I ordered these neodymium magnets to attach the rear-facing camera from Amazon. These magnets come with matching steel washers, and both have tapered holes so that small cone headed screws can be used to flush mount them both to the trim and camera. I put the washer on the camera and the magnet on the trim. I also drilled a hole exactly big enough for the larger end of the rear camera cord to fit through the trim piece, and stretched a grommet over the cord, and then stuffed the grommet into that hole for a clean install. The magnets have an "80" lb hold (really?) but they do hold very well. Like they're welded together and the camera does not move. But it can still be dis-attached (with significant effort) and adjusted as needed.

One suggestion @BriC-622, I K1autogx550 shows in his video that the wire between the rear and front camera is too long, so it has a lot of slack. I found that putting that extra slack wire above either of the two passenger side doors was challenging, as there seemed to be a lot of vehicle wiring in the roof (airbags?) so I found that stuffing all that extra wire slack into the headliner above the rear window (IMG_4709) was pretty easy. Clear as mud?
Looks great !👍

My next mod: I had a door-lock keypad installed on my 2023 4Runner, and I miss it. It's similar to what Ford trucks have, but it's an OEM part for certain Toyota models. So I'm working with an automotive electrical engineer to modify it to fit my '24 GX550. It's challenging, because I have to take the dash and other areas apart to find specific connectors to install the OEM Toyota keypad. And, wow, are these connectors hard to find.

This video explains what this keypad is: 4Runner keypad

Oddly, this keypad kit is only available from US SE regional dealers. I asked my local CA dealer about it, and they had no info about it. But I was able to purchase one from Sparks Parts and install it plug-n-play on my 4Runner. When I bought my GX, I asked my 4Runner buddy if it's possible, and he said yes, so I ordered another keypad kit from Sparks. It's slow going, but we'll get it installed. Eventually.

Oh man that’s nice. I need to get some volks to match also! I don’t like the truck version of the G025s. I don’t even have a picture of the 2 next to each other yet!
