What did you do in your GX today?

The standard way the PPF is applied would stop (cut) the film just above the plastic fender flairs and above the door trim plastic. There is a gap between these plastic pieces that allows water (and the water/salt brine from winter) to run behind the trim. It will sit on the paint and on the lower edges of the fenders and door bottoms. These dark and damp spots that you can't wash/see and dry are typically where rust will start. So the film i had applied covers the metal behind the plastic and wraps under the vent flange of the wheel arches and around the back side of the door weld seams. This in my opinion should greatly help with rust. If you are not in a rust belt (or NE region) this is of less a concern as the dirty water that collects behind the plastic has less salt in it.

Installed my ditch lights. Some modification is needed to get these Land Cruiser brackets to fit, but man am I happy.

Interesting. What bracket did you use? I was thinking about doing these from Rago Fab and another from a different company but similar set up.
The Rago LC brackets won’t work on the GX, I bought some before these and returned them. The cowl that the bracket mounts to is different. The LC cowl is flat and the GX has a raised section. These brackets are from CAtuned offroad and are also meant for the LC. There is some modification ( trimming of the cowl) needed to allow these to work. Because of the cowl being wider on the GX vs the LC that space for the bracket to clear the cowl isn’t there on the GX. Sounds confusing. I will attach a pic of what I’m talking about. This is a bit of undertaking and not everyone will be okay with cutting up there vehicle, but the results are the best on the market in my opinion. I’ll also include some more close ups of the completed look. You can’t even see the trimming that I did to make the brackets work so they wouldn’t hit the cowl when opening and closing the hood. It took me some time to get it to be perfect. A bit more was needed to be trimmed even after this pic was taken.

Great to know.

Thanks!

Takes a little courage to start cutting stuff like that! Thanks for sharing the detail.
