Aftermarket Rock Sliders With Step

Dissident and NYTOP were too of my list too, but I can’t find anyone that actually has them, there’s rumor they’re made in China (can’t find more info)- then I found these:

SLEE is an OG Colorado off-road company, American made and I trust their design. I’ll be ordering a set when they get more in. They dropped some sets Friday and they sold out in 60 seconds.

I should have the NYTOP rock sliders soon, and I'll report. I have their Hybrid Bumper, and will put it on soon. It appears to be well made, and FWIW it came packed as good or better than anything I've ever received (and I've received a lot of large optical devices and related mounts).

EDIT: Blink Designs (on this forum) has the rock sliders and I communicated with them before ordering mine. You might want to reach out to them for their take.

I went to NYTOP’s location and picked up the skid plates today. The skids were very well packaged in a large box so I had to unwrap the package to bring them home. I’m expecting the sliders soon and that will come in a larger box.

Yes, these items are made overseas, probably China. It is a family business. The Slee sliders are similar in design to NYTOP, just thicker. Dissent sliders are similar as well but not made for the GX yet.

That is helpful information, thanks for sharing it. The NYTOP folks told me that their sliders were made of 3/16" and 1/4" thick steel, and the SLEE info says 3/16". By thick do you mean a bit wider, or taller?

By the way, did they comment on when rock sliders may be arriving? I'm in Tennessee, so a bit further than you.

Forgot to mention that I did look at their early prototype sliders that were bolted to the LC250. Very strong and solid.

NYTOP’s sliders are thicker at 1/4 inch but slimmer in profile than Slee’s. Slee’s sliders look taller based on the photo. I’m not sure if Slee managed to address the light location as I cannot tell from the photo.

On my OT+, the light down there seems to be shining on top of the running boards at the passenger seat location. If that is the case, it should be possible to have it do the same on the rock sliders, and not mount anything on the bottom of them. I may be not seeing where the lights actually are, so I'll find out for sure when they arrive and I install them.

I will inquire more about the light location when I pick up the sliders, which should be another 2 weeks or so. I had ordered them during Thanksgiving.

Thanks, I may crawl under mine in the meantime to look and see exactly where the lights are located on the OEM running boards I have on there now. Still too cold for me even in my garage though. I got my order in 12/9 so couple weeks or so after you.

I did do more investigation, and on the OT+, there is one running board light per side, located under the rear seat passenger side and driver side locations. It shines on top of the running board. It is held on by a plastic assembly (the one you can see attached to the bottom of the NYTOP sliders in their pictures, and in my picture attached in more detail). I believe that the way the NYTOP sliders attach to the GX, there will be a way to attach the running board light so that it shines on top of the NYTOP sliders, without the plastic mounting part extending below the rock sliders. The light now shines through a small slit in the plastic OEM running boards, so all you need is a small opening or crack for light to come through. Also, after looking at what is going on, the loss of that light, if that is what happens, isn't a big deal. You can see in the pics I attach how much light is coming down from the down spot on the side view mirrors onto the running boards and ground around the car. Another option if there isn't a convenient crack for the light to shine through on top of the running boards, you will be able to have it point down and illuminate the ground under the running board, enhancing what the front side view mirror down light is doing.

In any event, once I get mine and put it on, I will attach pictures of how I do it, or report that I can't :).

Pics of the way it is now with the OEM running boards and underneath:

I would be fine with leaving the light as is if it doesn’t interfere with the mounting of the sliders. I don’t find any use for the light anyway.

I don't see much use for it either. Leaving as is isn't possible though, since it is now mounted onto the bottom of the OEM running boards on a plastic bracket. You have to remove it (2 bolts) to remove the running board. So then you have to decide whether to bolt it to the bottom of the NYTOP sliders (seems not great if you actually slide on a rock--maybe I'll never do that but who knows). If you don't want it on the bottom of the NYTOP sliders you can unplug the light assembly or secure it up under the frame. If there isn't a hole for it to shine through, as I said I'll just secure it with it pointed downward to give some light on the ground under the rear seat area. Once I get it I'll be able to see what is best and I'll document it FWIW.

I had a set of Slee on 16' 4runner...would buy anything from Slee again, customer service was top notch.

I'm going to remove my running boards just to see how it looks with nothing on it while waiting for sliders to arrive. My old 1996 Series 80 Land Cruiser started out its life with nothing on there, and I recall thinking it looked kinda cool. Of course, that was 28 years ago so it's a pretty fuzzy memory. It has had running boards on it most of its life, not proper rock sliders, and they are beat up a bit.

Recently swapped my OT running boards for my wife’s Land Cruiser FE’s rock rails. Made me realize how much mud, snow, and ice the running boards kept off the lower sides of the truck. Need some decent looking mud flaps, anyone located some?

Many of the members here use the OEM mud guards. Look in the Mud Guards thread for more information. Order them from Bell Lexus for best pricing if you choose this route.
