GX550 Real World MPG

I drove rom Chicago to Pheonix (2024 OT+ with roof rack removed - too noisy). The drive is 25-28 hours (1800 miles). I probably averaged close to 80 mph for the trip. I had dynamic radar cruise control set at 84-86 most of the time, but higher through in Oklahoma. I speed up past the setting to pass when necessary and then let the car settle back into the DRCC setting. So while that's a good highway test, it a somewhat aggressive rate to push a big heavy box through the wind. I got 15.6 mpg on this trip. I filled the tank at Buc-ees in Amarillo, Texas for $2.49/gallon premium 91! The mpg definitely is less than I thought it would be, but that's okay by me. I would be a lot happier with a larger gas tank. The range on a full tank at 270 miles or so is pretty pitiful. It needs to be able to go at least another hour before refueling on this kind of drive (so 6 more gallons of capacity would've been acceptable).

I've had it tip toeing through the desert getting its shoes dusty. Pretty easy stuff with a bone stock OT+. Range is far more important (imo) if you let this truck roam out in its natural habitat. Pictured below is an hour or so from a paved road (Cave Creek AZ) in Tonto National Forest near a feature called CP Butte (the butte is visible above the rear of the truck).

At 14k miles I am around 17.2 with mix of city and freeway. On long freeway trips, going eco mode vs comfort gets me +0.6 mpg. Bigger tank would really help.

Just did a 1,000 km road trip this week, flat highway, varied speed from 90 to 120 kph (55 to 70 mph) with some limited city driving. Temperatures ranged from -10C to -1C. Stock 20" tires, I averaged 9.3L/100 km over the trip (25MPG calculated, not trip computer)

City fuel economy has been terrible but I was very surprised by the highway fuel economy, also l/100 seems to be getting better after the break in period.

Curious, you mentioned MPG calculated, not trip computer - by any chance did you compare to what the computer said? I'm always skeptical about what those report.

With Westcott lift, 285/75R17's and Method 316 wheels, my last full tank mixed city highway was 16.9. Measured the old fashion way of miles/gallons to fill. I'm pretty happy with that since it's consistent with Lexus estimates. We live in an area with a lot of terrain and winds that can negatively affect milage. Some of my in town driving is as low as 9.5 MPG as measured by the trip computer. So all in all I would say not bad

Monitoring this thread as a current lc 250 owner that would like to purchase a gx559 for my wife. I’m getting 18 mpg city driving on my shirt daily street commute in SoCal with lots of elevation change ( I live on the highest point of laguna niguel with ~900ft elevation change over 1 mile, with and the rest is also mild changes . There is no flat grounds in this area ) the same route would produce 20mpg if the engine is warm. Hey driving is ~24mpg at 65mph. I really want to get a gx and would love to find out what the mpg would be in my exact situation. For reference I got the following mpgs in my previous vehicles
F150 Raptor 13
Bronco raptor 12
Trx 9.5
Bronco badlands 14
Gladiator on 35s 14

17.2 mpg - local stop/go. Tires are pressurized to 38PSI all around. Using Premium from Costco. Time of year weather is great so little to no A/C. Model - OT, flat coastal terrain.

Nice stable of vehicles you have!

That is pretty good for local. For stop/go and short trips, I expect more like 15-16 mg avg.

Did some towing a week or so ago with my 23 foot airstream. It weighs about 5300 dry, maybe had a could hundred of cargo in the trailer - we travel very light. Averaged about 68~70 on the highway, mostly flat areas, no hard winds or anything. Ended up between 11.8 and 12.2 MPG both ways, I think the final was 12 MPG on the dot. Not bad IMO.

That's not bad at all! My F150 hybrid with a 20 (really 21) foot Airstream was 9-11 MPG, though we pulled 70-75 most of the time.
