What I can’t stand about my GX

The orange peel paint is disappointing. Time will tell if it's thicker and less delicate than what's applied on my made in Mexico Tacoma, but based on appearance alone the finish isn't premium.

The small gas tank, wind noise from the luggage rack and vibrations on the hood are all well documented and affect mine too. I can live with them all so far. Also have the no massage /lumbar in the passenger seat that has to go back to get fixed.

My biggest pet peeve, however, is the design of the rear cargo cover. It’s a PITA to get it out even with both sides that collapse or push in but it’s too long to easily maneuver. Then if you have to take it out, it awkwardly lays too long if you’re not at home at a place to leave it. So as much as I like having that I feel we could never have it in the car in case we ever need the 3rd row

What I don’t understand is how most of these problems aren’t a design issue which I would think would be present on all vehicles. My Overtrail has none of the above issues except brake squeal on first trip down the driveway in the morning (and that seems to have stopped around 3,000 miles).
The more I drive both my wife’s Land Cruiser FE and my Overtrail the better I like the Lexus (not knocking the Toyota in any way).

In no particular order..

Squealing brakes
Vibration
Loose tailgate spoiler
Hood flutter
Drivers Side Mirror vibration
Delayed throttle response
Overspray on rear bumper
Clear coat issue on pass doors
Minor issues that won’t leave you stranded but I’m sure glad I backed out of buying a first year totally redone vehicle. Hopefully there will be no issues with the engine and transmission.

Perhaps... the originator of this threat could edit the topic from

What I can’t stand about my GX to What I'd like to improve on my GX...

Every time I see this topic pop up I think there are probably few if any who can't stand their GX...

My current issue is my vented seats on high barely blow air. Is this an issue for anyone else? I had it tested and they said it’s “working as intended”

Folks, regarding the loose tailgate spoiler please consider this may have been a purposeful design decision at Lexus. Given the overall height of the vehicle this piece will likely strike overhead doors, parking garage roofs, etc. If this was a rigid mounting, the piece would crack and easily get damaged. With this amount of "flex" the likelihood of damaging the spoiler is greatly reduced. True, some spoilers appear to flex more than others, but the design intent is still there. Next time you check the 'wobble' of your spoilers try to keep this in mind.

Still waiting on delivery. But wanted to add my 2 cents of what's bothering me when I'm about to drop 85k on this. For context I've had 2016 GX Luxury and have a 4Runner now, so I'm pretty big Toyota fan boy.

The lack of 3rd climate zone in OT+ is completely unacceptable. It's a freaking 82k trim, same as the Lux+! I don't care if there is no 3rd row, I can still have dogs, passengers ect. Yet the base LC 1958 gets the 3rd climate zone for a 65k vehicle! WTF Lexus. At the very LEAST vents could have been added on the ceiling and not just the measly center console.

Secondly, I know the levers for the hood and fuel may seems "cool", but that's a 150 series Prado thing, I've driven a 2022 model for an extended period in Europe, and to my dissapoitment, the "new" GX interior borrows a lot from the 150 Prado interior, the 150! not the current model! Plastics, buttons, button symbols, even the levers in the exact same spot. Left for gas, right for hood (for def). GX460s have a button for the door. So how the hell a 2025 6th Gen 4Runner with a base trim has a button to open the fuel door and we have REGRESSED to the lever. Yes the Prado had a 460 layout, but the styling is the same. When I first sat inside a GX550 at an Autoshow back in Feb, my first reaction was "hey this is just like the 22 Prado, same buttons".

Lastly, I won't complain about sun roof delete becoming the "unicorn" of the 3rd Gen GX, like crawl control was with the earlier 460. But wtf is with shoving this stupid cool box from 200 series Land Cruiser down our throats. Every trim ordered by dealers comes with a cool box. Yes my 22 Prado had a cool box and boy was it useless for the winter months I drove it.
