GX550 Overtrail Vibration

I was the one who posted that pic and it was clipped from a video of the Tundra brake rotor TSB. The gold dot indicates “updated part” and is located on the horizontal flat area between the disc and hub. See pic.
I made the dot bigger and brighter than it actually is in person so keep that in mind when looking. It’s actually quite small…
Multiple people on this thread have asked for someone to post a video of the vibration. If it is as violent/noticeable/consistent as explained with seatbelts rattling, then i’d think even a 3 -5 second video link would show what is experienced, but nobody has posted a video yet.
There is another regular poster in this forum that lives in the same city as me and his isn’t vibrating either. I do know 3 other people that own the 550 and those aren’t vibrating either.
While this thread seems to be the lengthiest thread in this forum, if someone where to write/count down the people who are experiencing the vibration, it would probably be less than 15-20 of the 1053 other people that have an account on this forum
Until someone like you gets together with someone experiencing it, it’ll remain a mystery. Service Techs have both denied and agreed there’s an issue with owners having it. Could be about perception in the end.
Couple things -
It is intermittent so not easy to capture.
Mine feels like I’m on a washboard road at times even on smooth newly paved asphalt.
I tried capturing the hood flutter (which I’m not too worried about) on video and while the flutter is real, you really can’t see it on video so I doubt the vibration would be visible.
If yours isn’t exhibiting this issue, that’s great. You should hope that Lexus acknowledges and fixes it both for your resale value and whatever issue you may face down the line.
Lexus appears to be slowly acknowledging the brake issue (which may or may not be related).
Squeaking brakes and hood flutter are annoying on a car at this price point; unexplained vibration on smooth roads concerns me a lot. (And if you have read through all these posts than you can see many who complain are coming from jeeps, broncos (me), 4Runners (me), GX460s (me) and others with AT tires.
I just picked up my GX Overtrail on Saturday. My sales rep delivered it to me because I’m 250 miles from the nearest dealership (very grateful). However, I noticed a “unbalanced tire” feeling as soon as I got it up to 75 MPH. My current daily driver is a Tacoma with BFG KO2s so I’m familiar with the feel of a body-on-frame truck with off-road tires. As aptly described in previous posts, this feels like driving on washboards. I let my sales rep know immediately because I’m surprised he didn’t notice when he drove it to meet me. For reference, my GX just arrived in the country last week. I would have rather bought a 70 series if the US would allow them in the country, but alas, the Lexus was my best option.

8/14/24 to 8/26/24 Lexus Specialist
- 2 hours test driving his OT+ then my OT+ with lead dealer tech and myself. Frequency testing in the front seat and back seat. took 8 best toyo tires from both vehicles test drive my OT+ again with Lexus specialist and dealer tech again - unchanged. Lexus tech reset adaptations in computer to see if it improved - unchanged. stated the valving in the OT rear shocks are different than Lux/Prem due to anticipated increased weight allowance for overlanding. Suspects it may be due to Adaptive Shocks but no solution.
Changed toyo tires to Wildpeak AT4 LT - Unchanged...
10/1/24 Unchanged, shaking felt in passenger seat and rear seat mostly, not speed specific, worsens throughout the day all types of asphalt conditions. Attempted to capture on video but iPhone stability image control tends to zero out motion. rigged up a water vessel today to help demonstrate and attached some video.
Fully aware that most don't have this issue and thankful you dont, but for those that do its not practical to even drive. For context I have built and owned dozens of cars including numerous FJ40, FJ60, Tacoma's, 4 runners, GX470's, Ford Super Duty trucks and dozens of tractors/semi's etc etc. (just trying to offer context on the source of the diagnostics only not trying to boast so please understand i've not posted since this thread was on Page 1 trying to have a comprehensive perspective for peoples benefit and help try and narrow this down.) Wescott designs has put on the new King shock/suspension package and curious if they did this to any yet that had the vibration. It took Toyota 2 years to address the Tundra motor. They are dealing with the TX stop sale due to the airbag issue with windows down and now the 23/24 Corolla over brake module issue. My wife daily drives 2020 TRD Pro with 60k miles and just put on the wildpeak AT4's to replace the Nitto's and it drives like butter. I've since parked my GX550 and driving one of my other cars.
This vibration is not related to brake shims or squeaking for those thinking that Sroberts may have been related.
Again i'm just sharing my knowledge of my experience and perspective from research over 3 months. and shout out to TFlyfisher love the graphic!

For what its worth we picked up our Overtrail on 7/25 (after being on hold at port from 4/30) and happy to report we have absoluletly ZERO issues after driving for over 2 months around the city, on the highway, and all things in between. We were worried for a bit when we were waiting from all the stories, but like I said, absolutely perfect in every way.
To be fair, my wife traded her Jeep GC Summit for the GX, I drive a Wrangler JKU daily with 35's and lift , and have '22 Power Wagon all done up so we knew exactly what we were getting into with a body on frame and all the capability. Still ZERO vibration at any speed what so ever.
My original thought was this has to be related to the shocks/AVS/valving. If they went stiffer on the OT in anticipation of overland use they might have over done it on initial 1” of travel.

Wow. Thanks for thoroughly documenting and sharing your unfortunate experience thus far with your OT+. The videos really do point to a serious vibration issue. Curious whether your vehicle was ever held at port for QC before you took delivery. I know some others were around the same time and have had zero vibration issues. Gives me pause about whether I should delay acceptance of my 2025 OT+. Would be good to hear from people who accepted OT’s in SEP and in the weeks ahead to see whether they’re experiencing vibration issues. Thx again for posting. Really helps.
Awesome. This is exactly the issue w my Luxury + and the dealer bought it back from me after 21 days of being unable to fix the vibration. I’ve posted previously in this thread months ago, but like to point out it’s not an Overtrail + specific issue (so most likely not eKDSS). As my wife said about a quarter mile into her first ride in our GX “I will need to take Dramamine if I ever get into this truck again.” Happy for people who don’t have the issue, but they need to stop the nonsense that those of us that are complaining are overly sensitive and should toughen up in these body on frame SUVs. That kind of talk is nonsense. $84k to drive down a newly paved road at 25 mph and feel like you’re driving over highway rumble strips at 70mph? No thanks.
Since the vibration is occurring on OT’s and Lux trims, it sounds like the issue has to be the AVS.
Sorry to hear that. Out of curiosity, what part of the state are you in that you’re that far from a dealer? I’m in the Durango area, and in a similar situation.

To be clear, you all drove an OT+ with no vibration (the technician’s) and yours back to back? And everyone acknowledged the difference, so there’s no “this is normal” argument to be made?
Not good! It’s like the shocks are locking up intermittently.

Yes, the dealer service manager, two lead service technicians and the Lexus specialist all agree there’s an issue. I stopped by the dealer yesterday to show them the videos and he sent them to the Lexus specialist. He later called to tell me the specialist suggested I contact The corporate number is 1-800-255-3987 and open a claim. The more people that do this the more likely they will eventually pursue a solution.
