GX550 Overtrail Vibration

Hmmmm. I have found an OT+ that fits my config but it's not local to me. I would be trading in my '21 Gen. 3 Raptor and making a road trip.

I have not driven a GX550 yet. For the OP - How do you like your OT+ vs. your Raptor so far - vibrations aside... I'm presuming that will get addressed. Seems like there are a number of posts from OT+ owners in other forums that don't seem to have any issues like that.

Did you drive a GX550 before picking up yours?
Not sure if my comparison helps…you have (my opinion) one of the best off road trucks you can buy! My Premium+ is far superior to my last 2020 GX. Steering is precise, tracks better in the rain and the technology is up to date. The torque is amazing and the transmission response is quick. It feels more truck- like than my wife’s 2024 BMW X5 50e but that’s what I like in a SUV. If you were looking for another truck no way would I change… if you are looking to convert to a solid SUV I would highly recommend the GX.
Good Luck!
As a side note, over the past 20 years I’ve purchased 9 Lexus, 6 Mercedes, 2 Fords, 1 Z06, 1 BMW, 1 Volvo, 1 Toyota. Had 1 issue on a IS250, 1 for the 4runner, 6 issues with Mercedes, one issue on the BMW. All dealers resolved the problems… stuff happens. Lexus also had the highest trade-in value.

The whole vehicle. You can hear seatbelts rattling in the back. My wife said she’d need dramamine if we ever took it on a road trip. She also thought her seat was loose at first, but nope, whole truck just chatters for no reason.

yepp that's what I am experiencing as well. Usually very noticeable every time you first get in the vehicle and start driving. Starts to happen around 25 mph, seems to peak (amplitude-wise) between 30-40 mph and then softens as you proceed to accelerate but never goes completely away.

I mean we absolutely love the vehicle minus the bumpy ride. Interior fit and finish, materials, GUI, all fantastic. Thing really has a presence out on the road. Lexus nailed the styling. I have driven 4Runner trd pros before and never really liked the interiors and I do not recall them being as jarring. The Gen 3 raptor is such a fantastic vehicle. Raptor rides much better, has more acceleration (more HP and torque...), and quite a bit larger fuel tank. I think if I had to nitpick anything else on the GX its the fuel tank size. We get about the same mpg between the two. We do not have the hood vibration issue. Id love to ride in someone else's to see if notice something similar or not.

Like idiots... we did not drive the vehicle before trading in and picking it up. We really thought it was mainly just overinflated tires or a wheel being out of balance. Just watched and read so many reviews of the vehicle and its a lexus... that we felt confident and comfortable that we would like it. We have owned several Lexus products in the past.. Same with my parents and grandparents through the years. We drove the previous gen GX and liked everything but the way it looked. We thought it would be about the same.

UPDATE from Dealership: could not find anything wrong. They believe it is one of two things. Either the wheels and tires (being off roading tires) and tried to tell us that this is just how vehicles with offroading tires behave or it is E-KDSS. Driven several vehicles either made from the manufacturer to be the off road variant and ones that have been modified for such occasions. They have two demos: a luxury and an OT. The OT has the same ride that ours does and the luxury does not. I went to the dealership to drive and experience them myself. We are "patient number 1" for a case that they opened up with Lexus. Unfortunately one of their service advisors divulged that unless a lot of people go in and complain about it, it might be a while before we hear from Lexus.

I have a friend that works for Toyota in Plano and he discussed the problem with some engineers and some in QA. His manager is a huge Land Cruiser fan and owner and suggested I talk to another service advisor that off roads GX, LX, and land cruisers to explain the issue. Talked to a friend whose dad was a director of service at another Lexus dealership. Long story short: everyone says Lexus will address and fix the issue. One gave me the tid bit to call 1800-25 LEXUS and report the finding. They opened up a case and immediately offered to buy the vehicle back. We said we want the vehicle and would like to see if it can be fixed. If it cannot, then yes we would like to look into options of returning it or selling it. Should hear back sometime this week and can let yall know what can be done. I am told by the service advisor that told me to call Lexus Corporate that they will likely send product engineering specialist to the dealership and work with the techs to figure it out.

Have you check the alignment?
Yes I asked the dealership we bought it from to check alignment as well as wheel balance. The master service tech was quick to point out that if the wheel balance was off that the issue would pop up at higher speeds... say 55 mph+.

I asked if they could take the wheels and tires off of their luxury trim demo and place them on their OT demo to see if the problem persists but they were reluctant to do so and said that it is not that easy.

I asked if it was possible to reflash the e-kdss module computer if there was such a thing and they said that they do not have the ability to do so.

Sorry this is happening. Sounds like your dealer is giving you a hard time. I would go to another Lexus dealer that’s more easy going and kind to their new customer even though you bought it from a different dealer.

Alternatively if you know a good wheel/alignment shop nearby they might be able to help.

If you have the ability to take the wheel off, check to see if the tire is bowed. If it is, even though it’s new, you might have a defective tire. The threads inside holding the rubber have ripped and is causing the tire to expand. Not saying this is happening but it’s something to check

I'll give that a shot. It's definitely worth checking into

I’m working on doing an exchange for mine bc of the vibration and chattering issue. My dealer now has two with the same problem, so hopefully corporate sees it’s a real problem and not just something subjective. I’ve had a loaner TX for 7 days now. At this point, I’m so disappointed after waiting for 10 months that I want nothing to do with it anymore. Probably just trade into an old man RX hybrid for a year and wait for the GX hybrid or flip to a new Land Cruiser.

Yikes, that stinks!

Shoot no way! Hate to wish this on others... Not a fun experience paying 80k on a vehicle and for it to act like this. I am happy and sad to hear that I am not alone in this.

I did hear back from 1800-25-LEXUS today and they essentially said that because the dealer's demo overtrail had the same issue that it is inherent to the vehicle and not something that will be addressed until more people report it. She said that eventually if more people report it Lexus will come out with a fix and a TSB for dealers to address it.

So please if you do not mind report this issue to them. It took 10 minutes to do and will help others in the future. I am hoping that Lexus will have a fix for this quickly or we will be doing the same shortly.

That's an unacceptable response. If true, I'll just look at other vehicles.
